Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta penne, fusilli, or your choice - 340g
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta water.
  • Blanch the broccoli florets in a pot of boiling water, for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the cooked pasta and broccoli florets to the skillet. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to create a sauce that coats the pasta evenly.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese and lemon zest for an extra burst of flavor.
