Ingredients

  • 42 ounces apple pie filling - 2 cans, 21 oz each
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 15.25 ounces yellow cake mix 1 box
  • ½ cup butter melted - (1 stick) unsalted

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease a 9x13 baking dish - set aside.
  • Spread the apple pie filling into an even layer at the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg over the top of the filling.
  • Add the dry cake mix, spreading in an even layer, making sure to cover all or as much of the pie filling as possible. Do not mix into the pie filling - you want it to be a dry layer on top of the filling.
  • Drizzle the melted butter on top of the dry mix. Try to cover as much as possible.
  • Sprinkle with the chopped pecans - if using.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is browned. The filling will be bubbly.
  • Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream on top.
