What mushrooms are best for stuffing and roasting?
All mushrooms are deliciously roasted – especially when stuffed with this cheesy spinach artichoke dip. Portobello and cremini/button mushrooms, on the other hand, are the most frequently used mushrooms for oven-roasted mushroom dishes.
Notes for Making Stuffed Mushrooms
- This recipe calls for cremini or button mushrooms but shitake or king oyster would also work! If using portobello, it will yield less as they will hold a lot more of the dip when you stuff them.
- I have found that the bags of shredded cheese don’t melt as well as when you shred it fresh.
- I like to add some fresh garlic for added flavor but feel free to add your favorite herbs– rosemary and sage would also be delicious!
- Salt and pepper are key to delicious mushrooms! Don’t forget to season them!

Can these stuffed mushrooms be made in the air fryer?
Yes – you can make these mushrooms in the air fryer. You might need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
To make – place the prepared mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook at 400 for 5 minutes, turn the mushrooms over, and then cook another 5 minutes or until fork-tender. If they start to brown too much, you can tent the top with foil to keep them cooking evenly.
What’s The Difference Between Roasted Mushrooms And Baked Mushrooms?
The words roasted and bake are often interchangeable – but the definitions, while similar, are a bit different.
Roasted mushrooms are mushrooms that have been cooked in an oven at a higher temperature for a shorter time.
Baked mushrooms are mushrooms that have been cooked in the oven at a lower temperature and for a longer period of time.
