Yummy Bar Recipes are back with these Salted Caramel Butter Bars. Delicious salted caramel in these rich butter bars is positively delightful.
I mean, if you love salted caramel, then these really are for you. I should really rename them “can’t get enough bars”.
Have you ever made a recipe that you serve & the next thing you know….it’s gone? Yeah, that’s exactly what happens with these Salted Caramel Butter Bars every time I make them.
I don’t know why I never remember to make a double batch when I whip these up for the family – but I really just need to do just that.
The drill usually goes a little something like, “so what do you have for dessert?”. I say “butter bars” as I bring them out & get them cut.
I then set the pan on the table, grab one for myself & listen to the yums from everyone. Then all of a sudden I look back at the pan & they are GONE! Just like that.

I love how easy they are to make – which is great! Honestly, if I put a ton of work into a recipe- I sort of want it to last more than a few minutes.
These certainly don’t last anywhere near that, so it makes me feel better that it doesn’t take me very much effort to go from prep to enjoy.
I’m telling you- these are a MUST MAKE & I promise they will become your new favorite yummy bar recipe EVER!
These may seem a little complicated when you first read through the recipe, but rest assured, they are quite easy to make. They are 100% worth every moment it takes.
If you love salted caramel-like I do, these will make your eyes roll back & you will be wondering where these have been your whole life.
Here are some commonly asked questions
What pan do you use to make these bars?
I like to use this 8×8 pan. I find it great for brownies, no-bake bar recipes, these salted caramel butter bars & so much more.
Where can I find the caramel candies?
I usually pick up caramel squares – but I have also seen them available sometimes in the fall at the grocery store.
You can also check stores that have a bulk candy section, like Winco. They are great for ingredients like this. That being said, I usually make this recipe with homemade caramel.

What is the recipe for homemade caramel?
Gina Kleinworth says
You can use this one https://www.kleinworthco.com/easy-salted-caramel-sauce/ or 7-ounce bag caramel candies, 1/6 cup milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract as the alternative mentioned in the recipe.
Angela says
Can you make these without salt? I’m not a huge fan of salted caramel and am not sure if people around me are either
Gina Kleinworth says
That works fine.
Ann Shallcross says
I made these a few hours ago. I did not have any caramel sauce in the house so made a recipe that I have to make some. I cannot say enough about how delicious these are. I followed your recipe but as mentioned, made my own caramel. They cut beautifully and look and taste amazing.

Where’s the recipe for homemade caramel?

You can access all my caramel recipes by either typing caramel in the search bar at the top of the page, or by choosing caramel in the drop down menu in the sidebar.

Can I use salted caramel ice cream topping
Gina Kleinworth says
I suppose you could – however, because it is pourable I don’t think it would set once the bars are finished baking as the regular caramels will. The bars may end up just falling apart.
Stefanie says
Salted or unsalted butter?
Gina Kleinworth says
That’s really up to you – depending on how much salt you want to cut the sweetness but keep in mind you are adding salt to the caramel.
Ellen says
One of my absolute favorite recipes! Delicious! I have made these several times now and they are always hit. Question – can I freeze them? Thanks!
Gina Kleinworth says
You sure can! Just put a piece of parchment in between each layer before placing them in an airtight container. They should keep for up to 1 month.
Sandy says
I made these for my coworkers. I was surprised to find them all gone in less than 1 day! Only about 15 people made quick work of them. I’ve been asked to make again!
Jennifer says
This can’t possibly be meant for an 8×8 pan! I doubled it to put in a 9×13, and it was waaaaay too much for the pan. Couldn’t finish the recipe because the bottom layer didn’t cook enough to support the caramel. It was delicious scooping out the gooey batter, and I’ll definitely try it again but using the recipe as listed in a 9x 13 pan.
Gina Kleinworth says
It was in fact an 8×8 pan because my family was sad that we didn’t have more. I’m sorry to hear you had trouble. Did both pans have the same depth?
Linda says

Such an awesome recipe! I used the salted caramel recipe from Sally’s Bake Blog. Also added macadamia nuts the second time around. It’s delicious both with and without the nuts ☺️
