Rolo Pretzel Turtles are a simple & easy holiday treat with just 3-ingredients. Perfect for neighbor gifts, parties & serious chocolate & caramel lovers.
My friends, there are a handful of things in this world that make me lose all self-control. Bite-sized candies that are both salty & sweet like these Rolo Pretzel Turtles definitely stop me in my tracks.
I mean, crunchy, salty pretzels topped with a chocolatey caramel Rolo & then topped with a crunchy pecan or another favorite treat. It is literally all my favorite flavors there in one little heavenly bite. It is no wonder I can’t stop eating them.
These are so crazy easy to make too. The hardest part is unwrapping all of the Rolos & getting each ingredient all laid out on the pan. Which isn’t really “hard” at all – so you get my point.
My kids love making these & they are great for doing something that is not only easy but nearly mess-free too. These turtles get you in the kitchen with the kiddos for some quality family time without a whole lot of complicated steps.
The kids really love being a part of the “baking” process. Especially the really little kids – they sure love being able to place the pretzels on the tray or help unwrap the Rolos. It is good “busy” work for them & the payoff is getting to enjoy them when they are done.

These are always one of the first things to disappear when I bring these to a holiday party or potluck. It doesn’t matter the time of year, everyone loves these & they all are practically fighting over the last one.
Because of that I always like to include these on the tray of goodies that we give out to the neighbors each year. Everyone loves having something bite-sized & easy to eat but that is also SO TASTY! I know that they are gone in record time if I have a plate of them in front of me.
Here are some commonly asked questions
How many does this make?
Well, honestly – it really depends on how many you want & how many you can fit on your baking sheet. We used a 3/4 baking sheet, so we fit a good 50+ on there. But you can make as many as you buy ingredients for.
If you only need a handful – then you can start there. These are so quick to make that it is easy to make these in large quantities – perfect for gift giving.
Can I use a different nut or topping instead?
Sure, you can use walnuts or almonds or Cadbury Mini Eggs if you like. You can also use an M&M or other candy to top these too. They just won’t technically be “turtles” anymore. Still delicious though!
I used Cadbury Mini Eggs in the Shimmer for these. They are my favorite Easter candy so when I saw a different variety, I had to but them. (link to them below)
What is the best way to store Rolo Pretzel Turtles?
The best way to store these Rolo Pretzel Turtles is to keep in an airtight container at room temperature. Unless you live in a really warm climate where you would want to keep these refrigerated, these should store well for up to 5 days.
Why are turtle candies called turtles?
So, while these Rolo Pretzel Turtles are a bit different, Turtles are a candy made with pecans & caramel dipped in chocolate. They have a shape resembling a turtle. These don’t exactly resemble a turtle, the pecans, chocolate & caramel are all there. But I think these are better because they include the salty crunch of the pretzel. Plus they are WAY easier to make.
Can you freeze Rolo Pretzel Turtles?
I wouldn’t advise it. The pretzels will absorb moisture from the freezer & lose their crunch. No one likes a soggy pretzel. These are best when kept in an airtight container at room temperature.
HOW DO YOU MAKE Rolo Pretzel Turtles?
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
- Place the pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Top each pretzel with an unwrapped Rolo.
- Bake in preheated oven for 3-5 minutes or until the Rolos are glistening but are still holding their shape.
- Remove from the oven & immediately press a pecan half or Cadbury Mini Egg on top of each Rolo, pressing down to flatten slightly.
- Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before transferring to an airtight container.
Does it matter what kind of pretzel is used?
You can use regular mini pretzels or the little square ones. (links to both below) It doesn’t matter as long as they are bite-sized & can hold the Rolo.

Why did my chocolate turn white the next day?
This is what we call blooming. It is sort of a chemical reaction that the chocolate has with the air, like when the paint on a car oxidizes. It is caused by liquid fat like the cocoa butter within the chocolate migrating through the chocolate & crystalizing on the candy’s surface.
The chocolate is still good, doesn’t taste any different. It just looks different. Depending on where you live, this can be almost impossible to prevent.
However, you can try keeping the candy in an airtight container at about 70°F to help fight against the chocolate blooming. The refrigerator will actually be too humid for chocolate, so keep it in a cool part of your kitchen, like a dim pantry or on a low shelf.

Judy says
It troubles me that it’s necessary to remind people to unwrap candies. It seems if someone is old enough to read a recipe and understand how to use an oven they would have the common sense to know wrappers must be removed from candy before baking. They know to remove the wrapper before eating it!!
Sorry, I know that someone somewhere has complained about the recipe being a disaster because they left the wrapper on so it’s necessary.
