Easy Reindeer rolo pretzel recipe to whip a sweet and salty snack with caramel, salty pretzels, M&Ms, and candy for the festive table.
These reindeer pretzel treats are incredibly cute and come together in less than 20 minutes. They are fun and easy to make, so you want to save this recipe for this holiday season.
It is basically a twist on my classic rolo pretzels dipped into melted chocolate, which also works as a festive Christmas treat.
Why You’ll Love These Reindeer Pretzels
- Easy Christmas treats with sweet and salty flavors
- Mess-free recipe with minimal prep time and practically no cooking
- Fantastic holiday gift for the Christmas season for friends and coworkers.
- The kid-friendly recipe they will be excited to help with (and you will be relieved to let them unwrap all the rolo candies!).
Ingredients Notes
- Mini pretzels. I use small pretzel twists. Be sure to use mini pretzel twists so that the Rolos are the correct size for the holes. Mini twists will make the base of the reindeer face and the halved extra pretzels will make the reindeer antlers. I highly recommend having extra pretzels whether want them or not there will be some broken ones that you can’t use.
- Dark salted caramel Rolo candy to make reindeer face. There are a few variations of the Rolo chocolate caramel candy and I use the dark chocolate one for this recipe. We need unwrapped rolos.
- Candy eyeballs. Our reindeer will have cutesy candy eyes! You can, of course, use edible markers to draw eyes but using edible candy eyes is much easier. Look for them in the baking aisle.
- Red and brown M&M’s. We make red candy noses with small round red candies (M&Ms or similar).
Kitchen Equipment
- Baking pan/cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil to make sure we don’t ruin this perfect holiday treat by letting it stick to the sheet.
How To Make Reindeer Pretzels With Rolos
This easy Christmas treat recipe basically relies on simple assembling of the parts like a sandwich.
1: Lay The Pretzel Twists On The Baking Sheet
- Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Set the prepared baking sheet aside.
- Separate the pretzels in half – placing half of the pretzels on the baking sheet.
2: Add Rolos
Remove the Rolos from the wrappers and place one unwrapped rolo on each of the whole pretzels.
3: Prepare Pretzel Antlers
- Take the other 50% of the pretzels and cut each in half down the center, using a sharp knife.
- You will have a more even cut if you place the knife on the pretzel and then hit the top (dull side) with the palm of your hand in a swift motion. You will have some that break unevenly, but just try to match sizes as best as possible. These are pretzel antlers!
4: Bake Rolo Pretzel Reindeer
Bake for 2-3 minutes – you don’t want the Rolos melted, just softened. They should be holding their shape when you pull them out.
5: Add Antlers
Remove from the oven and immediately add the antlers to each Rolo by placing two at the top, and pressing to hold.
6: Add Reindeer Eyeballs
- Add the eyeballs and red M&M (for the red candy nose) below the antlers to make the faces – pressing gently to hold. Press with the letter M facing down to have a clean look.
- Allow to cool and set so that everything stays in place before storing or serving. They should be set at room temperature within 20 minutes or you can refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to a week or 2 weeks. Let the snacks cool completely before storing them and avoid direct sunlight.
You may also refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
However, I don’t recommend storing them in the refrigerator as the pretzels will become soggy in the damp air as well as the M&M and eyeballs tend to sweat and lose color when refrigerated.
Rolo Reindeer Pretzels Variations
- You can use milk chocolate Rolos, Doves, or Hershey Kisses if desired. Both work amazingly for this fun treat and are easy to find at the grocery store.
- You can use circle pretzels instead of pretzel twist kind. Same method: a whole one works as a face, and broken in half makes reindeer antlers.
- Try making these with mini peanut butter cups too.
- Instead of pretzel twists for the bottom of the Rolos, you can use pretzel waffles (rounds).
- Instead of M&M’s for the nose, you can use Red Hots or Cinnamon Imperials – the added spice is a great addition to the salty pretzel, caramel, and chocolate flavors. Any round red candy will work as long as it is similar in size.
- You can also dip the pretzels with rolo candy in melted chocolate chips (dark or milk chocolate) to get a stronger chocolatey flavor.
- Reindeer noses rolos. This variation of the tasty treat doesn’t require antlers. We simply do the same classic rolo pretzels and add red candy as noses.
Tips To Make This Reindeer Rolo Pretzel Recipe
- This recipe can be halved, doubled, or adjusted to suit your needs and the size of your holiday party.
- You don’t want to have melted rolo. You only need to soften them. So keep an eye on the baking process. I do not recommend preheating the oven to 350 degrees F as it can be too hot and melt the rolos too fast.
- A huge shortcut to make this easy holiday treat is to use a microwave to soften rolos instead of the oven.
