Whether you are feeding the family or a large party crowd, these Poppy Seed Ham and Cheese Sliders are the perfect recipe – everyone loves them!
Who loves quick & easy recipes? I would be lost without them! We like to make these Poppy Seed Ham and Cheese Sliders as a versatile on-the-go breakfast recipe or sometimes as a game-day snack that our whole family loves.
When it comes to party-type foods, sliders almost always make an appearance in our house. You just can’t go wrong with them – especially when they are as good as these.
This post is brought to you in collaboration with Eckrich Deli Meat. All opinions are my own.
I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways I can put a delicious homemade meal on the table quickly.
Less time in the kitchen & more time with my family is always my priority.
To make sure I have everything I need, I like to stop at Walmart to pick up all my ingredients, including Eckrich Deli Meats, which are now available at the Walmart deli counter!
These sliders are so simple to make. When preparing them for the kids to have for breakfast, I like to make a full batch & then individually wrap them after they have cooled.
This makes it easy for the kids to grab them on the go as they need them.
This recipe makes 12 sliders, so that gives me almost a whole week of breakfasts for them!
Here are some commonly asked questions…
Why choose Eckrich deli meat?
Any way you slice it, Eckrich deli meat is my top choice at the deli counter.
Not only is it convenient because I can grab it while I’m at Walmart during my weekly shopping trip, but Eckrich is always gluten-free, full of flavor & made with unmatched quality.
The Eckrich Ham Off the Bone gets its premium flavor from its own natural juices, getting all the delicious flavor of bone-in meat.
Can ham and cheese sliders be made ahead of time?
Absolutely. As I mentioned, we like to bake them all at once & then portion them out. You can enjoy them cold the next day or just give them a few seconds in the microwave to reheat them if you are short on time.
So simple & still just as delicious the next day.
How to store leftover ham and cheese sandwich sliders
If you happen to have any of these sliders left over after serving – you can either cover the baking dish with foil or plastic wrap OR transfer the remaining sliders to an airtight container.
Keep them refrigerated until ready to serve again. To reheat – microwave for about 30-60 seconds or until hot again. Don’t overheat them though- the bread will get hard and undesirable.
What to serve with these game day sliders
Gameday snacks are what we do best – so the list is long for the recipes that we like to serve alongside these little gems. But here is a shortlist of the recipes that ALWAYS make an appearance with these sliders.
Can these be made without the poppy seeds?
Yes – of course. If you’d like to omit the poppy seeds just leave them out of the buttery mix. No problem with that – but they do add great texture so I highly recommend making them with them at least the first time.
Can these be made with another type of roll?
We like to use Hawaiian rolls because of their texture, density, and flavor. The sweetness really compliments the ham.
While you can use another type of dinner roll, you will need something that won’t fall apart when you add the butter over the top and will still be sturdy enough to pull apart after baking too.
Would you be able to transport these in a crock pot to keep warm?
I don’t advise using a slow cooker to transport because it will slowly continue to cook the bread, resulting in the bottoms of the sliders being tough to chew.
I highly recommend using something like this Wonderbag that can keep the food hot for up to 12 hours.
HOW DO YOU MAKE HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS?

- Cut the slider buns in half like a sandwich.

Ingredients for Poppy Seed Ham and Cheese Sandwiches
- Eckrich Ham Off the Bone deli meat
- sweet slider buns
- swiss, provolone or pepper jack cheese
- butter
- brown sugar
- Dijon mustard
- poppy seeds

I bet this recipe is super delicious with the Hawaiian Sweet rolls. Looks like it probably has just the right balance of sweetness, saltiness, and mustard flavor. Why do I always choose the “food” posts to read? They make me hungry, even when I just ate! #happynowlinkup

These sliders look fantastic!! They don’t look too tough to make and they will feed quite a few hungry folks!!
Thanks for the great recipe! I can’t wait to try them!!

Would you be able to transport these in a crock pot to keep warm? Also do you think I could substitute poppy seeds with chia??
Gina Kleinworth says
I don’t advise using a slow cooker to transport. I highly recommend using something like this Wonderbag https://amzn.to/2Dromxa that can keep the food hot for up to 12 hours. I also don’t think chia seeds are a good choice because not only will they bring a completely different flavor- they swell when moist, which won’t be great on a sandwich.

Gave these a try tonight, and they were so easy. They are so tasty we decided to make them for a casual bridal shower next month. Thanks for sharing!

My mom used to make these for us – but she spread the poppy seed butter mixture on the top buns before baking. Delicious!

These are delicious and take little time to prepare! I used small Hawaiian rolls so found that the amount of sauce is a little too much. I will half the sauce ingredients next time or double amount of sandwiches. But they still get five stars because of their taste and ease to make!!
Laura McGuire says
24 slides of cheese!? 1/2 cup butter!? 1 tablespoon poppy seed!? This recipe makes way too much sauce – too much butter for the amount of sandwiches – makes the bottom bun soggy. Too many poppy seeds and I am a poppy seed lover. Just overboard on the ingredient amount. The flavor is great but!
Rick says
This would be great if I could figure out how much each ingredient to use !!!

You scrolled past the printable recipe to get to the comments.
However I have heard that in rare instances, different browsers will keep the recipe card from populating correctly. You should find it at the bottom of the post but before the comments section.

Sorry I was referring to the game sliders.
Gina Kleinworth says
Yes – that recipe for the sliders is just above the comments section where you are leaving your messages. Are you not seeing it there?
Linda Ellington says
These turned out great. Delicious and easy to make. I did not do the additional 10 minutes baking after the foil was removed and I didn’t see why it was recommended. I will definitely keep this recipe nearby. I have read other recipes for these sliders and don’t think they would have the flavor this recipe delivers.

thankyou the recipe sounds beautiful.
Gina Kleinworth says
A stick of butter is the same as a half cup – I did a simple search to find the equivalent for grams, which is 113

Thank you for the recipe, we are using it for a student lunch and have done so before and it’s been very popular. Your website is full of great recipes but the top banner comes down so far that you don’t see much of the actual page- if possible maybe you could make your logo smaller so that the top banner doesn’t come down so far?
Gina Kleinworth says
Hi there Lydia-
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble with that. I’m wondering if it is your browser or settings – the logo itself is less than 150 pixels in height – so it shouldn’t be filling up too much room. That being said – my tech person had to do some alterations to my site to comply with the latest Google regulations and it did alter the formatting slightly from what it has been for years. I think it was to be more adaptive to different-sized screens – but I have seen some be sort of glitchy. However – I do have a full site redesign and overhaul coming by the first of the year – we have been working on it since spring. So that should fix a lot of the issues, make things more functional, and offer a lot of new features.
I’m glad you like the sliders and I hope you will bear with me while we wait for the new site design to finish up.
Have a great week – Gina
