Perfect French Press Coffee is simple & easy to make. Step-by-step tutorial with helpful tips & tricks for an amazing brew! Start the morning off right!
I talk a lot about coffee here. In this house, it’s the elixir of life & our days revolve around it. We loved coffee long before moving to the Pacific Northwest, but up here there is definitely a coffee culture. I love it because it’s engrained in the way of life & it’s good for my soul. Because of this, I’m sure you could guess that I take my coffee pretty seriously & I am particular in how I like it. So today I thought I would share with you how to brew the perfect french press coffee.
Perfect French Press Coffee with Bulletproof Coffee
The first thing, start with coarse ground coffee beans. I use Bulletproof Coffee Beans because the grind is perfect for french press brew. If you get a fine grind the press can’t keep them all from getting into the coffee itself. I like my coffee strong & this really gives me all that I’m needing when I grab my first cup so very early in the morning.
Now, my bag came ground already, but if you are working with beans – the first thing you need to do is grind them up. I really love doing this by hand because it gives the perfect texture.
I like to start with a hot french press because I’m going to be adding hot water into it. So I usually run it under some really hot water for a couple minutes, dry it & let it sit while I work on the other things. Measure out your grounds into the french press. I like my coffee strong, so 1 tbsp per 4 oz of water is the perfect ratio for me. My press is 20 oz.
While we were grinding & measuring we had the tea kettle going on the stove. It started whistling just as we were ready. Pour the hot water over the grounds slowly.
Stir gently with a long spoon.
Let it sit & brew for 4 minutes. Take in the beauty of that steam rising from the press. It’s a beautiful thing, especially when you know a great cup of coffee is almost ready.
Now gently push your press into the glass. Work slowly & carefully.
Pour immediately into your cup & enjoy! Just look at that! Isn’t it just beautiful? Mmmmmmmmmmm!

Lovely photos and sentiment! A small but important point to add: Metal spoons can make very fine scratches in glass. Normally, this isn’t much of an issue as these may be imperceptible. In the case of glass press, under intense heat and regularly undergoing rapid changes of temperature – here warming under water is a good step – these very fine scratches might lead to a catastrophic, potentially injurious, and at the very least messy failure of your French pressure and your first cup of the day with it. I’m not certain how often or how likely this issue is to present itself but it would concern me if I were using a discount press perhaps not manufactured to the standards of the better known brands. Either way, I play it safe and use a non-metallic spoon for my stirring.
