Here are some commonly asked questions
Can I use a different chocolate coating in this recipe?
Yes, you can! You can alter the recipe by substituting the white chocolate wafers for dark or milk chocolate instead. Be sure to follow the directions on the package when melting the wafers as each brand and type will require a slightly different approach.
I don’t like peppermint. Can I use a different topping?
Absolutely! The best part of these cookies is their versatility. You can substitute the candy cane pieces in this recipe with a favorite topping of your choosing.

Why didn’t my chocolate wafers melt correctly?
When your chocolate wafers become chunky rather than creamy, it is said that the chocolate seized. This is typically due to overheating or contact with water or steam.
In the first case, the chocolate is just burning from excess heat, but in the second case, there is a negative reaction between the chocolate (which is waxy and has many oils that are hydrophobic, or “water-fearing”) and the water, causing the components of the chocolate to separate.
Be sure to refer to the package directions when melting chocolate to prevent this from happening.

How do you make Peppermint Bark Cookies
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Place the white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on 50% power for 30-90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds.

Peppermint Oreos
Can these cookies be frozen?
Unfortunately, the candy cane pieces tend to get moist and sticky when in a cold environment, so I don’t recommend chilling these cookies – either in the refrigerator or freezer.
Can I use chocolate chips instead of candy melts?
So, because we are melting the chocolate, I have found that chocolate chips don’t always temper well for recipes like this. Sometimes you need to add coconut oil to get it to melt creamy enough for it to coat the cookies well.
Sometimes – usually with white or colored chocolate- it likes to seize and then you are stuck with an unusable mess. I highly recommend using candy melts for this recipe.
To make Peppermint Bark Cookies you will need:

How should I store these cookies?
Place the cookies into a sealed container for easy storage. They do not need to be refrigerated.
Do I have to use Oreo Thins?
No. This recipe recommends Oreo Thins simply because they will be easier to keep together as they are heated by the melted chocolate. However, it would be acceptable to use any size Oreo for this recipe.
