Oreo Peppermint Bark is a delicious twist on a classic peppermint bark recipe. The layer of Oreo cookies with the creamy filling is amazing!
This Oreo Peppermint Bark is a delicious way to enjoy the holiday season during holiday gatherings. Incorporating the chocolate and the cookies makes a delicious Christmas celebration.
A holiday tradition in our household is to make a Christmas bark for the family and all the neighbors to enjoy. We find this recipe is an easy way to make into beautiful gift baskets as the bark is not likely to get ruined by the bag or accidents.
chocolate bark with Oreo cookies
This year, we decided to bring a perennial favorite into the mix using Oreos! By combining these two delicious treats, this recipe will certainly be a hit among your friends and family.
I absolutely love the versatility of Oreos, as many have made it an art form to incorporate them into new recipes. One of our family favorites from holidays of years past were my No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Bars.
Peppermint Bark Recipe
This one treat incorporates the crunch and creaminess of the cookie with the richness of the chocolate. Topped with peppermint bits, this bark is the essence of the holiday season.
An advantage of this bark is that it is easy to make in bulk for passing out to neighbors and friends in gift baskets. This is due to the fact that it does not need to be refrigerated and the decorations are not as easily ruined when transporting them.
In our house, it is a good thing that we can make a bunch of this bark at one time because it does not last long with the kids or my husband home. With how popular these are among friends and family I am sure that this recipe will become a holiday tradition at your home too!

Here are some commonly asked questions
How long does it take to make this recipe?
It is anticipated that this recipe would take about 15 minutes. The time may vary by how organized you are and how efficiently the chocolate melts in the microwave.
The time it takes to set will depend on the climate in and around your home. Warm and humid climates may take longer for the chocolate to solidify.
Why didn’t my chocolate wafers melt correctly?
When your chocolate wafers become chunky rather than creamy, it is said that the chocolate seized. This is typically due to overheating or contact with water or steam.
In the first case, the chocolate is just burning from excess heat, but in the second case, there is a negative reaction between the chocolate (which is waxy and has many oils that are hydrophobic, or “water-fearing”) and the water, causing the components of the chocolate to separate.
Be sure to refer to the package directions when melting chocolate to prevent this from happening.
Does it matter if I don’t use Oreo Thins?
No. You may use any of the conventional Oreo sizes. Our family prefers the Double Stuffed Oreos but knows that the bigger the cookie the more it affects the integrity of the bark.

Can these cookies be frozen?
Unfortunately, the candy cane pieces tend to get moist and sticky when in a cold environment, so I don’t recommend chilling these cookies – either in the refrigerator or freezer.
Can I use chocolate chips instead of candy melts?
So, because we are melting the chocolate, I have found that chocolate chips don’t always temper well for recipes like this. Sometimes you need to add coconut oil to get it to melt creamy enough for it to coat the cookies well.
Sometimes – usually with white or colored chocolate- it likes to seize and then you are stuck with an unusable mess. I highly recommend using candy melts for this recipe.
