As part of being on the Life n’Reflection design team, I get the chance to try out some of the new photoshop textures & goodies Kristy is offering. I love it because it gives me a chance to play in photoshop & push my creativity where I normally wouldn’t. I’m so wrapped up with all the images for this here blog & for my clients- that I rarely just process images for fun. In fact- I rarely pick up the camera for anything other than work these days. So I welcome the opportunity to play when I can.
This month I’m trying out these new Midnight Textures Set. They give a grungy feel if you leave them at full opacity (which is really fun for urban feel sessions with the kids) or you can play with blending modes & opacities. The results are just gorgeous!!!
I started with this image after doing a little clean edit with FloraBella Classic Color actions just to speed my workflow a bit.
Then I copy & pasted Midnight texture #1 – set the blending mode to Overlay @ 19% opacity.
Here I copy & pasted Midnight texture #2 – set the blending mode to Soft Light @ 20% opacity.
Next I tried it with Midnight texture #3 – set the blending mode to Screen @ 20% opacity.
This is probably my favorite version of the bunch. I would print this one on canvas for the house.
Finally I copy & pasted Midnight texture #4 – set the blending mode to Lighten @ 54% opacity.
Here they are altogether.
You can check out the full Midnight set & more at Life n’ Reflection.
So then I wanted to play a little with the FREE Cloud Texture – because it’s so pretty!
I decided to use it on this images I snapped of these kayakers.
This is the clean edit – just sharpening & adjusting for shadows & highlights.
Then I copy & pasted the cloud texture over the entire image & set the blending mode to Overlay at 50%. I had originally thought I would create a layer mask & remove some texture from the focal point- but after adjusting the opacity – I was really loving the vintage feel of the image & decided to just leave as is & flaten & call it good.
