Ingredients Notes
You can check the exact quantities on the recipe card (it is printable too) at the end of the post.
- Vanilla oreo cookies (easily can use the gluten-free variety)
- Lucky charms cereal (just the cereal part, toasted oats-based treat)
- Lucky charms marshmallows (the marshmallows from the cereal) for the extra gooey texture. Mini marshmallows will be best, but regular size work too. Delegate this task to kids – they will be happy to pick them out, but they may also eat a few along the way, so have extras.
- Melted butter. Use unsalted butter, make sure it is completely melted. You can melt it in a microwave or on the stove.
- Softened cream cheese. Cream cheese will take about 30 minutes to one hour to soften at room temperature. Use brick-style cream cheese like Philadelphia, not the one in the tub.
- Confectioner’s sugar or powdered sugar.
- Whipped topping – I am using TWO full tubs and it gives the best texture.
- Vanilla instant pudding mix (two boxes – 3.4 ounces each). Vanilla pudding is the classic ingredient in lush desserts, it adds so much texture and an extra layer of goodness. You won’t need to use extra vanilla extract for flavoring.
- Cold milk. Note that we need cold milk, not room temperature.
- Green food coloring to add the signature green color that we all associate with St Patrick’s Day!
Garnish:
- Additional cereal treats
- Whipped cream
- Sour ropes
Kitchen Equipment
- 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking
- Food processor
- Large bowl
How To Make Lucky Charms Lush Dessert
1: Make The Oreo Crust Layer
- Prep a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper or grease it with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Process the cookies and the cereal, crushing them into crumbs using a food processor.
- Add the melted butter, and pulse a few times to moisten the crumbs.
- Gently press the moistened crumbs into an even layer in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
2: Make The Cream Cheese Layer
- Combine the cream cheese and confectioner’s sugar in a large mixing bowl – beat until smooth.
- Fold in 1 container of the whipped topping.
- Add the green food coloring – you decide how vivid you want the shade. But keep it mind that the color may intensify as the mixture sits.
- Spread the green cream cheese mixture over the cookie layer.
3: Make The Marshmallow Pudding Layer
- Whisk the dry pudding mixes and milk until combined – creating the pudding.
- Mix the marshmallows from the cereal into the pudding mixture. Spread this on top of the green layer.
4: Decorate & Chill
- Top with the remaining container of whipped topping.
- Decorate with candy on top.
- Chill for 4 hours before serving.
- Before serving, garnish with some whipped cream clouds and a rainbow sour rope.
Storage
Store leftover lucky charms lush in the fridge in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
This lucky charm lush dessert can be frozen for 2 months.
Substitutions & Variations
- Add white chocolate lucky charms or mini chocolate chips.
- Use mint extract to add an interesting flavor and jazz up the sweetness.
- For the pudding layer, you can also use pistachio or chocolate pudding – pick your favorite!
- Use any St Patrick’s Day decorations and toppers to serve individual slices
- You can save some Oreos and crush them for topping too. If you can find them – use mint Oreos! They will add more green color.
- Don’t want a fancy topping? Simply pipe some whipped cream and put a maraschino cherry on top.
- For a healthier topping use chopped nuts and dried fruit. They may look less festive but will add a nice crunch!
Expert Tips To Make The Best Lucky Charm Cereal Lush Dessert
- You can line the baking dish with parchment paper to make slicing easier, but it is not necessary.
- Do not skip the chilling, it guarantees that the dessert is fully set since it is a no-bake treat. Wait at least 4 hours.
- If the cream cheese doesn’t blend well, it is still too cold. Let it soften more.
- If you struggle with assembling, chill every layer before spreading the next one.
