Jager Bomb – an iconic potent cocktail featuring Jagermeister shot dropped inside Red Bull. An alcoholic delight that you can mix in just a couple of minutes.
We don’t know who and when invented this amazing concoction but it is one of the most popular recipes and drinks in bars.
But tonight you can be your own bartender and serve your friends cool yummy, energizing, drinks. So if the shot of Jagermeister is too boring for you, and you happen to have a cold can of Red Bull in the fridge, time to make this “drop shot”.
Let’s get the party started!
What Is Jägermeister?
Curt Mast created Jägermeister. It is a German herbal liqueur with black licorice, anise, ginseng, and 53 more different herbs. It has 35% alcohol content, so it is less potent than most spirits. The base of Jagermeister is vodka, not Irish whiskey contrary to popular belief.
For many drinkers, Jagermeister has an acquired taste.
What Is Jager Bomb?
It is a type of boilermaker drink meaning a shot of strong alcohol is served with lighter alcohol or non-alcoholic drink together.
Dropped in a glass of Red Bull it becomes a Jager bomb – a drink that was supposedly created in the late 90s somewhere around Lake Tahoe.
Jager Bomb is also called Red Bull Blaster, Black Pearl (Perla Negra), Flying Stag (a combination of Red Bull’s marketing slogan and the iconic Jägermeister logo), and Akkuhappo (battery acid in Finnish).
It has an herbal, sweet taste.
Ingredients To Make One Shot
- 6 oz Red Bull energy drink, sugar-free Red Bull works too. Use cold Red Bull.
- 2 oz Jägermeister.
You’ll Also Need
- Drink a Glass (at least 10 ounces in size), you can use a pint glass or a highball.
- 2-oz Shot Glass
It is not a typical cocktail, we don’t need a shaker because you don’t shake a Jager bomb.
You can use ss spoons to measure the liquor before pouring it into the shot glasses.
How To Make A Jager Bomb
- Pour the Red Bull into your serving glass.
- Pour the Jägermeister into a separate shot glass.
- Enjoy
What Is The Right Way To Drink A Jäger Bomb?
This drink can be enjoyed by dropping the shot glass full of Jägermeister into the serving glass full of Red Bull. The drink would be “chugged” at that time. That’s how it is usually done in a bar.
Drink immediately, but be careful not to hit your teeth!
OR – you can take the shot of the Jägermeister first and then immediately chase it with the Red Bull. In that case, you probably don’t need to portion the Red Bull into a serving glass – it can be consumed straight from the can.
Jager Bomb Variations
- You can also mix Jager with some cranberry juice or cider instead of Red Bull. Add some ice and drink as a cocktail.
- You can use any other energy drink besides Red Bull. The combination works no matter the brand.
- If you want to skip the caffeine you can use lemon-lime soda instead of Red Bull.
Pro bartenders know how to also make a Red Bull foam, but I keep my cocktails beginner-friendly.
Tips To Make The Best Jäger Bombs
- This drink can not be made ahead of time since the Red Bull contains carbonation.
- The drink is only “technically” considered a bomb if you drop the shot glass filled with Jager into the glass of Red Bull and drink together. It is more of a splash than a bomb but you get the point!
- Mixed with energy drinks jager bombs are not that strong, stronger than beer but not as strong as pure Jagermeister.
- The size of the drink can vary – going up or down an ounce or two depending on your tolerance.
- Please drink responsibly. Alcohol naturally has depressant effects, while energy drinks have the opposite effect and contain caffeine. Mixed together they balance each other out and are making drinkers feel more aware of their surroundings and alert. This leads to people drinking more than they should.
- Jager bombs make you drunk faster than you think and may cause a memorable hangover, so please, once more, drink responsibly, and don’t forget to drink regular water during the night to keep your body hydrated.
