Refreshing classic cocktail with Jack Daniels whisky and Coca-Cola never fails to start a party. The key to nailing it is the jack-to-coke ratio.
Jack and Coke is not a fancy cocktail you sip with a cute umbrella, it is a fun and delicious drink to share with friends to get the party going without the harsh taste of the liquor.
You – just enjoying a great taste of Coca-Cola and boozed-up soda chatting, or dancing away.
I realized that this old-fashioned cocktail is so popular, that Jack Daniel’s actually made a canned Jack drink that is already a mix of coke and whiskey and a new flavor for their country cocktails!
But we are not looking for an easy route, plus making your own cocktail you can always adjust the ratios, and literally add as much alcohol or coke to your drink.
It takes a few seconds to make, drinks easily, and tastes great, what else do we need really?
Note for the young generation. As this drink contains alcohol, I urge you to be mindful of responsible consumption and only drink it if you (and your friends) are of legal drinking age.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- A 2-ingredient cocktail: spirit + mixer. Foolproof and beginner-friendly.
- Sweet and doesn’t taste like strong alcohol. An amazing taste experience.
- Time-tested American social drink that most people enjoy and, actually, like!
- Universal. There is literally no occasion you can’t serve Jack and coke at.
Ingredients Notes
- Coca-Cola. Signature heavy caramel coke taste softens the hard liquor flavor of the whiskey – perfect balance. Regular Cola has more sugar, not that there is anything wrong with it, but if you control your sugar intake, use Diet Coke. Plus, the soft drink adds the bubbles!
- Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey or Jack Daniel’s old no 7 – the original name of this Tennessee Whiskey (not a bourbon!) that is a staple in any bar in the world. If you’re a true connoisseur you can sense the natural vanilla flavor of Jack Daniel’s old no 7 and you will be right – it is partly why Coke and Jack are such a good combo. Jack Daniel’s properties are due to a complex production and charcoal mellowing so it is perfect on rocks or neat.
- Ice cubes (optional). The ice should be high quality so it is best to make your own.
- Lime – slices or wedges (optional, for garnish). For the longest time, I didn’t get why you would add lime to Coke and whiskey, but I think with age I acquired the taste. The fresh touch of some acidity is so good!
Kitchen Equipment
- 14-ounce highball glass OR beer can glasses (optional)
How To Make Jack Daniel’s And Coke
- Fill the glass with ice if you want to enjoy this drink on the rocks.
- First, pour whiskey over the top of the ice. How much whiskey to add depends on your preferences (or your guests).
- Follow with the Coca-Cola – filling the glass. You can stir just lightly to make sure the two ingredients are well combined. You don’t have to stir well as bubbles will make sure the drink works.
- Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge or add a few slices in the glass. Serve immediately, it is best enjoyed right away.
Storage
I don’t recommend making Jack Coke cocktails ahead of time as the Coke will lose its fizzy nature (it bubbles out) and taste stale.
Jack Daniels & Coca-Cola cocktail doesn’t store well at all.
Substitutions & Variations
- Regular Coke can be easily replaced with Diet Coke, Cherry Coca-Cola, or even Pepsi. If using diet cola, do not drink on an empty stomach, Diet Coke
- Alcohol. Jack Daniel’s is just a brand, you can use any other whiskey brand you like (Jameson, Johnnie Walker, or fancier brand). You can also use good-quality rum or bourbon. Different whisky can also have different flavor notes, so make sure to try first if it works well with Cola. You can try Jack Fire (with cinnamon), Jack Honey, Gentleman Jack or other varieties.
- Instead of lime wedges, you can add a dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice directly into the glass.
Expert Tips To Make The Best Jack Daniel’s And Coke Cocktail
- To change the strength of the cocktail – simply increase or decrease the whiskey in the drink.
- Any brand of cola will work – but for the original taste experience, please use Coca-Cola.
- When not serving this drink on the rocks, you can use an old-fashioned glass for whiskey.
- To make a Jack and Coke recipe, always pour the whiskey first.

How Much Whiskey Should I Put In My Coke?
Jack & Coke is a classic highball cocktail that uses more mixer than alcohol. A good ratio of whiskey and Coca-Cola for the cocktail is 1 part of whiskey to 2 or 2.5 parts of Coke. If you want a more potent cocktail, you can use a 50/50 ratio.
