Italian Coleslaw is a twist on the classic backyard bbq side dish. Zesty & flavorful, this coleslaw recipe is sure to be a favorite all summer long.
My family sure loves to switch things up in the kitchen. It really doesn’t matter what it is, they are always looking for a fresh twist on the foods we make, even if those foods are classics.
Take our standard garlic coleslaw recipe for example. They really wanted to add it to another dish that I have coming up for you here soon. But they wanted a little more bite & zing than just the garlic would give.
So the hubs started pulling things out of the fridge & a whole lot of mixing & chopping was going on. Then this gorgeous Italian Coleslaw was the end result. It’s it just so pretty?

Italian Coleslaw Recipe
Honestly, I really think that he was just itching to use the new knives that finally arrived. We had ordered them what seemed like forever ago. But with all that has been happening around here, we sort of forgot about them.
Then one day they arrived & it was like “ohhhh, what can I make with these?” So since we had just picked up a whole bunch of fresh produce, I think he was inspired.
It’s really so simple. Just chop, mix in a large mixing bowl & then add your dressing. The dressing is key- the family is obsessed with it.
Commonly Asked Questions
Can I make this coleslaw ahead of time?
Yes, in fact, it is recommended to prepare the coleslaw at least 2 hours ahead of time, allowing it to chill in the refrigerator. This helps the flavors meld together and results in a more delicious and well-rounded dish.
Storage
These simple ingredients add an awesome punch to any summer spread. This coleslaw is a perfect partner for your next barbecue!
Refrigerator:
Store the coleslaw in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. For optimal freshness and crunch, consume within the first two days.
Freezer:
It is not recommended to freeze this coleslaw, as the freezing process can alter the texture of the cabbage and make it soggy.
Ingredients
- cabbage
- purple cabbage
- shredded carrots
- black pepper
- minced garlic

Tips
This delicious coleslaw might just be a new favorite with the family!
- Use pre-packaged coleslaw mix for a quick and convenient option.
- Add sliced red bell peppers or shredded carrots for extra color and nutrition.

I tried this recipe and I believe it may be better for me with not as much black pepper. 2 tbsp is a lot of pepper
