Instant Pot Sesame Salmon Bowls are a delicious and easy dinner, ready with just 10 minutes of prep. Packed with flavor and good for you too.
This salmon dinner is tender and flaky, while also being full of flavor from the sesame sauce it’s cooked in. It pairs perfectly with rice and vegetables and makes the whole family happy!
Not only is it delicious – but so easy to make too. Using the Instant Pot really takes the guesswork out of cooking seafood like this salmon. I know you’ll love it as much as we do. Pair this with my Instant Pot White Rice too!
I was talking with the family about adding more seafood to our diet. The whole family loves seafood and is always asking me to make their favorites.
Since the hubs and I have been trying to eat better and cut out sugar and flour from our diet, we have been adding more homemade dinners and including light proteins like salmon.
This dish just makes him so happy because not only is it super fast to make – but he doesn’t feel deprived or like he’s on a diet. Just simple, delicious food. I know you’ll love it too.

Here are some commonly asked questions
How to store leftover salmon
Place the leftovers in an airtight container and keep refrigerated. Salmon will keep for up to 3 days. To reheat – pop the lid of the container, add a splash of water and place the lid back on loosely. Then reheat in the microwave until hot – allowing the lid to steam the salmon.
Can this be made in the oven?
You bet – check out my recipe for garlic butter salmon. Just make the sauce as instructed here and then pour the sauce over the salmon in the foil pack as instructed in the garlic butter recipe. Bake to those directions – still simple and easy.
Instant Pot Frozen Salmon
Where can I find the best salmon?
As you can imagine, Idaho isn’t really known for seafood. We are landlocked here and while there are plenty of freshwater options when it comes to fish – the family really loves the things that aren’t readily available here.
So, fortunately, a friend of mine told me about Catch Sitka. With Catch Sitka I can get Wild Alaskan Line-Caught Seafood straight from the dock to my door. Super easy and keeps the family happy too.
Living remotely is peaceful and quiet. But that also means that getting to the store isn’t as convenient. We don’t have local grocery delivery since we moved out of the neighborhood lifestyle – and that’s okay most of the time.
Especially when I can still place orders through Catch Sitka and have my food brought right to my door, often with free shipping. You can’t beat that!
It makes it simple, easy, and convenient to have delicious seafood anytime we want. No plowing out to get off the property and no more driving on icy roads to get to the market anymore.
Plus it makes a great gift for family too!
Instant Pot Salmon Recipes
What is the difference between a pressure cooker and an instant pot?
By today’s definition, they are virtually the same – if you are talking about an electric pressure cooker. However, a traditional pressure cooker and an instant pot are two different cooking methods.
A traditional pressure cooker is a sealed metal container that cooks food quickly by steam under increased atmospheric pressure and heats the pot to boiling point.
An Instant Pot, on the other hand, is an electric-style pressure cooker that uses the same idea for cooking foods but can do so with very little liquid. They are incredibly efficient, safer than a traditional pressure cooker, and super easy to use too. Plus they come with a multitude of other functions making them great for quick meal prep.
Can this be made from frozen?
Actually, since we are using the Instant Pot – yes. Just increase the cooking time by 1-2 minutes and you can make this without any planning ahead to get the salmon thawed. So simple!

Ingredients for Instant Pot Sesame Salmon
- soy sauce
- water
- brown sugar or honey
- lime juiced
- sesame oil – not included
- garlic minced
- ginger grated
- sesame seeds
- cornstarch
- sriracha
- center cut salmon filets
What else can I add to the salmon?
The possibilities are endless. We love serving salmon with asparagus, broccoli, corn, zucchini, or potatoes. You can also do a veggie medley and add them all in there if you like.
Keep in mind that because this is pressure-cooked – things like elevation can change the cooking time.
What is “natural pressure release”?
Often, an Instant Pot recipe would call for you to release all the pressure at the end of the timed pressure cycle. However, the cooking process stops when the pressure is released.
For recipes that call for a natural pressure release, you would refrain from releasing the pressure from the unit for a set amount of time. This allows for a little extra cooking time as the pressure inside naturally goes down.
At the end of the natural pressure release cycle, you would then use the valve to release the remaining pressure and stop the cooking process.

How to Make Instant Pot Sesame Salmon
- Whisk together all of the ingredients – soy sauce, water, brown sugar or honey, lime juice, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, sesame seeds, cornstarch, and sriracha – (everything except the Salmon) in the Instant Pot.
- Add the salmon and make sure it gets covered on all sides with the sauce. Place the salmon skin side down and set
- the Instant Pot to Pressure-Cook for 1 minute.
- When the Instant Pot has finished, release the pressure manually (be careful, it will steam).
- Remove the salmon and turn the Instant Pot to Saute.
- Cook the sauce, stirring occasionally, until it has reduced and thickened– about 2 minutes.
- Spoon the sauce over the salmon and enjoy immediately.
- Store any leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
How many can this serve?
This recipe makes 2 salmon filets. It will depend on how you want to divide it. Technically you can serve 2 people. But when I make this for lunch and I want a smaller portion – I can make this and feed 4 people with lunch portions.

What size Instant Pot do you use for this recipe?
I am currently using an 8-quart pot, but this recipe can be made in the 6-quart pot too. If you have one of the smaller versions (3-quart mini), I recommend cutting this recipe in half.
Can this recipe be doubled?
Absolutely. If you are cooking for more than 2 people you can place 2 pieces of the salmon on a trivet above the other pieces at the bottom of the pot. You will want to wrap those ones on the trivet with foil and add the juices to the foil with the salmon to make sure it stays moist and tender. If your Instant Pot can fit all 4 pieces in the bottom without being too over-crowded, you can do it that way too.
