Instant Pot Green Bean Casserole is an easy holiday side dish that’s ready in just 10 minutes. Perfect for your Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner!
Are you a fan of green bean casserole? This time of year it is so incredibly popular. But I have to confess, we rarely include it with our holiday feast. Until now!
You see, we usually have the turkey or ham going in the oven. We don’t have a double oven, so that means we can’t do any other baked dish at the same time. This is why I am so incredibly excited that I was able to take my traditional recipe & convert it to be made in the pressure cooker!
This really is the favorite side dish of everyone in our friends & family list. You just can’t go wrong with fresh green beans smothered in a creamy sauce & topped with crunchy fried onions.
Growing up my grandmothers – on both sides would make this dish & it was the one thing that everyone went back for seconds for.

Now, I have to say, this green bean casserole isn’t just a holiday recipe. While we do enjoy it most often on Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas – it is great on the side of a delicious fried chicken or pork tenderloin recipe too.
The best part about this one is that I can pop it in the pressure cooker & in just a couple minutes it is ready to enjoy. No need for the side dish to be complicated or time consuming.
When the green bean casserole is as easy to make as this one is, we can enjoy it just about any time we like. You won’t hear any complaining from anyone in this house, I can tell you that for sure.
Did I mention just how easy clean up is too? I mean, doing it all in just one pot makes it so simple. Just toss it all in, set it & you are free to walk away & work on your other recipes for the meal.
That is the thing I love the most, recipes that are almost effortless & this one is just that! With all that delicious flavor – you can’t go wrong.
Here are some commonly asked questions
How can I make this in the slow cooker?
If you would like to make this green bean casserole recipe in the slow cooker, rather than the pressure cooker or in the oven- you are in luck. Just combine the green beans, seasonings, water & can of soup in the slow cooker & stir. Cover & set on low for 5-6 hours. Top with the fried onions 30 minutes before serving.
What is the best way to store leftover green bean casserole?
After serving, place leftover casserole in an airtight container. Be sure to label with the date before refrigerating. This recipe should keep for up to 3 days if not left out for too long. As with most things, it is important to get food into the refrigerator within 1 hour after serving to prevent bacteria growth.
How many can this serve?
This will depend greatly on portion sizes & the appetites of your crowd. This recipe feeds our family of 5 for our holiday meal + 2 days of leftovers. We have 3 young adult children, so we usually don’t have a ton of leftovers of most things, but this was perfect for us all & we could enjoy for a couple more days – which is what everyone loves this time of year.

Can this recipe be doubled?
Due to space constraints in a standard pressure cooker pot, I don’t think you would be able to fit all of the ingredients in there if you were to double it.
I would recommend making it & transferring to another container & making a second batch if you need double the amount. With this recipe taking less than 10 minutes to make, doing batches back to back is still reasonable.
Can this be made with canned green beans?
Yes, canned green beans are fine. They will be less vibrant in color & softer once done but still delicious. You will need at least 4 cans of french style green beans. Cook for 3 minutes instead of 5.
