Instant Pot BBQ Smokies are a quick & easy appetizer with just 3 minutes of cooking time making these the perfect snack for any occasion.
There’s one thing our family really loves – APPETIZERS! While most families are making a huge feast for holidays or celebrations, we like to keep things easy and do party snacks instead.
Because I’m all about keeping life simple, and I want to enjoy my holiday too – NOT do a ton of cooking and dishes – we love snacks like these Instant Pot BBQ Smokies.
I mean, you can’t really beat tossing everything in the pot and letting it do all the work. For years we would do these in the slow cooker and while that is still easy, this is so much faster!
I like fast – because I usually forget one thing or another. We put out so many snacks & then halfway through the day we realize we forgot to prepare one of the recipes.

When it’s simple and easy like these BBQ Smokies I don’t have to scrap the recipe because they can still be done in about 20 minutes.
When using the slow cooker, we would just save them for another day because it would take too long to wait for them to be ready. I love that I don’t have to do that anymore.

Here are some commonly asked questions
What is the best way to store leftover BBQ Smokies?
We usually transfer to a shallow airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 4 days.
Why use a shallow container to store the leftovers?
Well, when the container is shallow, the contents chill faster than if you were to use a large, deep container. Ideally, you don’t want it to take too long for the leftovers to get to their chilled/stored temperature.
As I mentioned, if the food remains above about 35 degrees for more than 1 hour after cooking, the bacteria starts to grow.

Is it necessary to use a specific type of pressure cooker?
No, not at all. I just happen to have an Instant Pot, but pressure cookers have become so popular over the last couple years that just about every big & small appliance company makes one. This will work with them all.

You can use whatever type of mustard you prefer for this recipe. We use yellow but it is just as good with Dijon.

Can I use pork smokies instead of beef?
Yes, absolutely, that will work just fine. This recipe is great with either.
Can I use omit the bourbon?
Sure – you can leave out the bourbon if you prefer. Remember that when cooking with alcohol, only about 70% of the alcohol will cook out – so if that is a concern for you, you can always replace it with a non-alcoholic vanilla extract or apple cider vinegar.
