Here are some commonly asked questions
What is the difference between this recipe and other cookie dough recipes?
This recipe is different because it uses black cocoa powder. Other cookie dough recipes use food coloring or dyes to change the pigment of the dough. We are using a black cocoa powder which naturally gives it that deep dark color and a wonderful chocolate flavor.
Why is this Halloween cookie dough perfect for Halloween?
This Halloween Cookie Dough is perfect for Halloween because it is spookier than regular cookie dough or even Halloween cookies, and it is easy to make. This will be a hit with your family and friends, and you can even serve it as part of a Halloween dessert buffet.
What is the best way to store leftover Halloween Cookie Dough?
The easiest way is to place it in an airtight container & store it in the refrigerator. Because this does still contain butter, it is important to keep this chilled.
Ingredients for Halloween Cookie Dough
- butter – room temperature
- granulated sugar
- brown sugar
- black cocoa powder
- milk
- vanilla extract
- all-purpose flour
- table salt
- candy eyeballs – large/small or combined
- mini chocolate chips
- sprinkles
How do you decorate the cookie dough?
You can decorate the cookie dough with different types of icing and candies. Go above and beyond the sprinkles and add some Halloween colored M&M’s, or even your favorite Halloween candies when you get back from Trick-or-Treating!
Can I use gluten-free flour, almond, or coconut flour?
Yes, you can use any of those types of flour & this recipe will still be just as amazing. If you use those types of flour often, you already understand that they have a different texture and will alter the texture of this cookie dough.
Also keep in mind that coconut flour tends to absorb more moisture than other flours, so you might need to add more milk to offset that and keep it from getting crumbly. ENJOY!!!!
Should I use light or dark brown sugar?
Being that I make my own brown sugar & I typically make it light, that is what I use. However, you can use dark if that is what you have on hand.
How to Make Halloween Cookie Dough
- Combine the butter, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl and beat well until fluffy.
- Slowly mix in the cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla.
- Stir in the flour, and salt until well combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, candy eyes, and sprinkles.
- Serve immediately or chill in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Bring close to room temperature before serving so it is creamy.
**If you are concerned about killing bacteria in the flour, you can either pour the flour onto a baking sheet & bake in a 350-degree oven for 5 minutes or place it on a microwave-safe plate & microwave for at least 1-2 minutes or until it reaches 160 degrees before adding to your dough mixture.
What are some other Halloween-themed cookie dough recipes?
Some other Halloween-themed cookie dough recipes include pumpkin spice cookie dough, spooky spider cookie dough, and black cat cookie dough.
These recipes all involve some sort of ghost or spooky theme. They’re a fun way to celebrate the holiday in a unique way!
Can I bake this cookie dough into cookies?
Nope. This dough doesn’t contain any of the ingredients you would need to get this dough to bake into cookies.
Things like leavening agents like baking soda & eggs are needed in regular cookie dough. They are what hold the dough together when it is heated & what makes the cookies rise & keep their shape.
If you were to bake this dough it would result in a puddle of goo on your baking pan.
