Grinch Recipes
Here are some commonly asked questions
What is the best way to store leftover Grinch donuts?
The key to storing these is to let just enough airflow in to keep them from getting soggy or moist but keep enough out to keep them from getting stale. I have found that if you place them in a paper sack and just fold over the top – they will keep well at room temperature for up to 2 days.
I don’t recommend refrigeration because the moist air tends to make the glaze melt and then makes the donuts soggy.
Can these be made in the air fryer?
Yes – these donuts can be made in the air fryer by preparing the dough the same. Then cook at 350 degrees for 4-5 minutes. Be sure to give a little spritz with oil prior to cooking them.
Once they are cooked – you can follow the same instructions here for the glaze.
Christmas Breakfast Ideas
Can these be made with homemade dough?
You bet! If you want to make your own dough – I have a recipe for dough made with yeast and I also have another 2-ingredient dough that also works well for this recipe. You can find all the details for both of them here in my Air Fryer Donut Hole Recipe.
Can these donuts be baked?
When making the donuts with canned biscuit dough – you need to either fry in oil or air fry to get that donut texture. If you bake these – you will basically be making glazed biscuits – not donuts. They don’t turn out the same. You can do it – it just won’t be a donut.
Green Donut Recipe
Ingredients for Grinch Donuts
- refrigerated canned biscuits
- vegetable oil
- frosting – vanilla flavored
- green gel food coloring
- red heart sprinkles
- white sprinkles
Where can I find the ingredients for these donuts?
I like to use gel food coloring to keep the icing from being too runny and the candy hearts are my favorite. You can find them available at most online retailers and at stores like Walmart and Target.
How to Make Grinch Donuts
- First, remove the biscuit dough from the cans and set aside.
- Now pour the vegetable oil into a large, shallow pot and heat over medium-high heat.
- While the oil is heating, take a small cookie cutter and cut a hole into the center of each of the biscuits. Continue with each biscuit until you have 10 biscuits and 10 biscuit holes.
- Next, add the biscuit donuts and donut holes to the hot oil 3-4 at a time. The biscuits will cook fast, so make sure to turn them every 30-45 seconds to make sure they are cooking evenly.
- Finally, remove the biscuit donuts and donut holes from the oil and onto a wire cooling rack.
Decorating
- First, while the donuts are cooling, place the containers of icing into the microwave and heat for 45 seconds. Be sure to remove the lid and (more importantly) the foil seal from the container before microwaving.
- Second, stir in the green gel coloring.
- Third, add the green frosting and white frosting to a large bowl and stir to combine. Use the bowl for dipping the donuts.
- Next, dip each biscuit and biscuit hole into the colored vanilla frosting. Once they’ve been frosted, place them back onto the cooling rack and allow them to cool before adding an additional coat of frosting if needed.
- Now, place the biscuits into the refrigerator for 20 minutes to allow the frosting to cool and harden.
- Finally, decorate the donuts with sprinkles such as white sprinkles and candy hearts for decoration.
- Serve.
How do you make homemade donut glaze?
**Standard donut glaze – whisk together ½ cup confectioners’ sugar with 1 tablespoon milk and ½ teaspoon vanilla.
Can this recipe be doubled?
Yes, you can double this recipe. Keep in mind the extra time it will take to cook and decorate all of the donuts and donut holes.
Can these donuts be frozen?
So yes and no. My suggestion would be that you can freeze the donuts after they are baked. But you should then reheat and add the frosting when you are ready to serve.
