The holiday season is full of traditions. It seems like everything we do is centered around all the traditions we have collected throughout our lives. We celebrate with the things that have always made us happy & brought us smiles. So I thought I would share today what our family has deemed as the Favorite Holiday Traditions for Families.
Christmas Traditions
During the holiday season we love to head out on snowy drives. We usually get our first snow before Thanksgiving. But by the time Christmas comes around, we often have plenty to make it feel really festive around here. We pick a day when the roads are good & head out to enjoy a day in the snow. It’s nice to come home & make a nice batch of hot cocoa to warm up with when the day is done.
Making countless batches of cookies with the kids is something that we love to do. We bring them to holiday parties, gift them to the neighbors & of course enjoy way too many ourselves too. It is something I grew up doing with my mom & grandmother & I absolutely love carrying on this tradition with my kids.
Of course, decorating the tree is up there on the list. We decorate as a family now that the kids are older. I love how helpful they are & that they are wanting to learn how to do it. Once they are out on their own they will be pros at it & will have so much fun decorating their own trees.
Favorite Holiday Traditions for Families
I mentioned it above, but I need to say it again because it is one of our favorite traditions…taking gifts to others. Think beyond those on your gift list. Of course, family & friends, then neighbors all get remembered. But we love to bring homemade goodies to first responders & those at our community center. Those giving individuals give up time with their families on the holiday to make sure we are all safe & they are available if needed. So we like to say a little thank you to them & let them know that we recognize & appreciate their sacrifice.
Looking through & making lists from the Sears Wish Book. This tradition has been in our family for as long as I can remember. The funny thing is that it was also part of my husband’s family traditions too. Sears has been an integral part of holiday traditions for generations. This year- 2017, Sears reinvented the Wish Book to reclaim its place as the definitive source for hundreds of gift options for every family member. I love that it offers convenient access both via mobile & online to help shoppers find everything they are looking for. You can also check out the app.
