Easy Apple Crisp Recipe is the perfect dessert for fall. Simple to make & loaded with apples, cinnamon & oats. Top a warm slice with ice cream, so good.
Do you love the flavors of fall? Our family sure does. When it comes to apples & cinnamon, it certainly tops the list – which is why this Easy Apple Crisp Recipe is one we make all season long.
You see, we love to go visit old farmer Joe here in town & always come home with a few flats full of apples. The family has their favorite apple recipes, like apple butter & apple pie. But this crisp also tops the list.

Now that we moved out of the city and have tons of our own apples – I’m pretty much making this every week and also taking some to just about anywhere I can to give some away. We are so fortunate to have the abundance of fruit on our own trees, so we can make recipes like this as often as we like.
Look at that caramel goodness in there. That comes from the brown sugar mixture & it is pure heaven, let me tell you. So good!

Here are some commonly asked questions
What kind of apples should I use?
For this crisp, it is best to use a firm apple like a Granny Smith. However, I have made this with golden delicious & pink ladies & it was just as tasty.
Can I use steel-cut oats in this recipe?
No. I wouldn’t just because I don’t think they will soften the same as the quick cook variety.

Can I use a gluten-free ingredients?
I’m not sure just yet. I have been meaning to give this a try with gluten-free flour, oats, and cake mix, but haven’t had a chance. If you do try this, I would recommend using a 1:1 flour like this one as I don’t believe it would require additional ingredients that are typically called for when trying to make baked recipes in a gluten-free version. Please come back & tell me how it turned out.

Should I use light or dark brown sugar?
Since I make my own brown sugar, I use light brown sugar for almost all of my recipes. But light or dark brown sugar will work in this recipe.

How to store leftover apple crisp
Once you are done serving this apple crisp, cover with plastic wrap or foil and keep refrigerated for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the portion on a microwave-safe plate and reheat in the microwave for 30-60 seconds or until hot again.
Can this crisp be frozen?
I’m sure that it probably can, but I have never tried freezing it. I’m not sure how well the apples would do once thawed. If you do give this a try – please let me know how it turns out after it has been thawed.
If you are looking for a quick & easy dessert that epitomizes fall – this is the one for you.
