Here are some commonly asked questions
About cookie dough dip
If you aren’t familiar with cookie dough dip, you are in for a treat. This dip gives you the texture and flavor of raw cookie dough, but without the worry of eating raw eggs or unbaked flour.
It’s rich and creamy, can be enjoyed with just a scoop on a spoon or dipped onto a cookie, cracker or fruit. I must warn you – it is quite addicting.

What is the best way to store leftover cookie dough dip?
I like to place the leftovers in an airtight container and keep it refrigerated. If it isn’t left out at room temperature for too long, it should keep well for up to 4 days.

Can this recipe be doubled?
You can double this recipe easily. I highly recommend doubling if serving to a large crowd. I also like to divide the recipe evenly by the number of people I am serving it to.
Just place the divided dip into individual containers for each person so they can enjoy it without sharing. Plus it keeps the spread of germs down.
Can you make this dip in advance?
You bet. If you are doing a day of prep before a big event or gathering – this dip is great for mixing ahead of time. It will chill well in the fridge for up to 4 days so if you just give it a stir before serving, it will be just as delicious as when made fresh.

Can this cookie dough dip be frozen?
Because of the dairy products used to make this dip I have not had great success in freezing this dip. I recommend only making the amount you will be able to reasonably enjoy within the 4 days it should keep for.
This recipe calls for a stand mixer. Can I also make this recipe by hand?
Because of the consistency of the butter and cream cheese, I don’t recommend making this with a whisk. It would be an incredible arm workout and I don’t think the whisk would survive.
If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can make this dip using an electric handheld mixer like this one instead.

HOW DO YOU MAKE COOKIE DOUGH DIP?
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add the butter and beat until well combined and fluffy.
- Beat in brown sugar, and vanilla.
- Add the confectioner’s sugar and mix until well combined and fluffy.
- Fold in the chocolate chips until mixed throughout.
- Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
How to soften the butter to room temperature?
First
There are a couple of ways to do this. The first being that you can take the butter (& any other ingredients that need to be at room temperature) out, leave it on the counter for about 30 minutes while you prep for baking.
I usually start with all my chilled ingredients and pull everything I need out onto the counter before getting started – so I know for sure I have everything before I’m mid-way through I realize I’m out of something.
But sometimes it’s winter and that isn’t enough time to get the ingredients warmed up – OR – I’m just not that organized to plan ahead. It happens. So I have another couple of tricks.
Second
I place the butter in the microwave – wrapped in the paper. (don’t do this if it is wrapped in foil) Then I microwave for 2 seconds – flip – go another 2 seconds – flip again – and continue for 2 seconds on each side.
This is usually enough to get it perfect – sometimes stopping before if it feels soft enough. Take care when doing this method – overly softened butter from the microwave WILL ALTER the end result of the recipe. Don’t over-do it.
Third
My third method is to place the wrapped butter sticks in a zip-top bag and place it in a bowl of warm water. I do this with the eggs too. If the water isn’t too hot it can be THE PERFECT way to get “room-temperature” ingredients.

Notes and Tips
- This doesn’t contain eggs or flour – making it worry-free when it comes to all those things that we enjoyed as a kid, but we now know we shouldn’t eat.
- Chill this in the fridge for several hours after mixing if you like a firmer dip. If you want it creamier, enjoy it immediately.
- For leftovers later, let sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes and then stir before serving.
Can I use regular chocolate chips?
You bet. I like using mini chocolate chips because they are easier to chew. But that is a personal preference.
