I think it all started when the hubs was still part of the FD. Holidays and parties were never set in stone because he could be called out at a moment’s notice. So we couldn’t plan for anything that required a big time commitment or that could be ruined easily.
But I have to say – I kinda love it because not only is it simple and easy – but it is adaptable to whatever we have going on. This cheese log is perfect to add to the snacks because we can have a little or a lot and then the rest we can save for another time.

Can I make this with different flavors?
You bet! You can make this cheese log using other seasonings, roll it with different nuts & dried fruits instead of bacon. The sky is the limit with this.
What to serve with this cheese log?
This cheese log goes great with everything. But here are a few of our favorite snacks to put out alongside this tasty snack.
What can I use instead of the nuts?
While I highly recommend the nuts for flavor and texture – if you have an allergy or flavor aversion that keeps you from using them, there are plenty of other options out there for you. Try rolling it in panko that has been toasted in butter, crushed pretzels, sesame seeds, crushed crackers, crushed potato chips, pepitas, or fried onions. There are so many options with this cheese log.

How to Make a Cheese Log
- Combine the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon crumbles, fried onions, milk, parsley, ranch seasoning, granulated garlic, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well until completely combined.
- Turn out onto a piece of parchment or plastic wrap.
- You can either use wet hands or fold over the parchment or plastic wrap over the cheese mixture to keep it from sticking to your hands too much. Start to shape it into a log, rolling and forming until it is mostly uniform in shape.
- Combine the chopped walnuts and sunflower seeds in a small bowl and then sprinkle the mixture onto the work surface next to the cheese log – then roll the log into the mixture. Continue this process until the entire log is coated. To make clean up easier – you can do this on top of the plastic wrap or parchment paper as well.
- Once coated – wrap tightly with plastic wrap and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
- To serve, place on a small platter and surround it with the crackers, pretzels and veggies that you plan on serving with the spread.
How many can this serve?
This will really depend on the portions each person is taking. If it’s me – then I could eat half the log before I walk away – because it’s just that good. But in reality, if people are just taking a swipe on a cracker or two then this should be good for 10-16 people.
Can this recipe be doubled?
Absolutely! We often double this recipe if we are taking these to a potluck or having friends over for a party. The cheese logs are a hit, so if you have more than a couple of people over, make sure to make a lot. You can even put out several in different flavors!
