Caramel Whole Wheat Donuts are a lightened up version of the traditional baked cake donut recipe. Using whole wheat flour & just a dusting of confectioners sugar in place of frosting, they are perfect with your morning coffee or at your next brunch. Don’t miss my tips for planning a coffee party too.
Caramel Whole Wheat Donuts
I mentioned a few days ago that I had put together a coffee party with some friends. Now that the weather is nice it makes me want to open the windows, let the sunshine in & visit & socialize with people I love over some snacks. It gives me an excuse to pull out all our favorite vintage linens, create a pretty tablescape, whip up a favorite recipe or two & have some fun. I wanted to keep things light, because it’s spring- so I chose to change up a family favorite & make a great pairing with my coffee.
At first I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make. I originally thought of cookies. But then while I was picking up my creamer at Walmart (essential to a coffee party) my inspiration hit me right in the face. I found the NEW International Delight Simply Pure Coffee Creamer – in all my favorite flavors. YAY! I picked up all of them & headed home.
I thought that since the creamer is called Simply Pure, it would be great to use in my “go-to” donut recipe. I chose to do a whole wheat version & nix the frosting for just a dusting of sugar.
I used the caramel flavored creamer IN the donuts too & it was great.
Now, as you all know, I work too many hours & don’t have a whole lot of time for other things. So when it comes to putting an impromptu party like this together – it’s all in how well you plan things out. So first tip I have for you – pick one recipe that is yours. Choose one that you are known for- that everyone loves. I chose to make the donuts. Then I pick up the rest of the items in the bakery section.
When you do this it can not only free up time, but it can ensure you are suiting a variety of tastes too. It’s also easier when you want to serve lightened up versions of things because you can stick to what’s on the label. When you are short on time, you can’t be spending a day re-making a recipe several times to get it just right.
When hosting a coffee party, make sure you have everyone’s favorite creamer flavors too!
Stick with a theme- this helps with staying focused. Originally my idea for this gathering was too broad. Once I narrowed it down to the idea of a coffee/brunch theme – it all came together quickly because I could focus on the things I would like to enjoy with coffee.
Don’t forget the flowers. They perk up any buffet table & if you get potted ones they last for a long time. They also make great gifts to send home with your guests.
You can also send home all the extra goodies with your guests at the end of your party to keep from having too many leftovers in the house.
Don’t forget the little touches. I used all of the vintage linens gifted to us from the hub’s late great grandmother. It made for great conversation when guests asked about all these hand embroidered cloths & hand crocheted doilies.
Bottom line – enjoy your guests. Time with those you cherish is precious. So make it great over some delicious snacks, fabulous coffee & International Delight Simply Pure Coffee Creamer.

Can these be made in donut pans and baked or no?
Gina Kleinworth says
Thanks for your question Faith! I have never tried it. I’m assuming that you have already used donut pans in the oven if you already own them. So I would say bake the same way you would your previous recipes but watch the timing. If you wish to purchase the donut maker instead – I found mine at Target on sale for $20.
