Buffalo Check Gift Ornaments
I absolutely LOVE making holiday decor items. Most of the time they never make it here to the blog because I’m so busy sharing all the recipes I’m whipping up that there just isn’t enough time. Once November hits I’m usually spending the better part of every free moment working on Christmas projects to get the place ready to decorate after we wrap up Thanksgiving. I mean, do you know how quickly the month flies on by when you have to make all your decorations? It seems like it never ends & just when I think I have it wrapped up, I’ll wake at 2 AM with another idea I just have to create. Which is why I love simple & quick decorating projects that I can whip up in just a few minutes like these Buffalo Check Gift Ornaments.
I knew I wanted to cover the tree in pretty paper ornaments. But I also wanted to coordinate the gifts with the tree & add those same paper ornaments on the packages too. Fortunately I had this AWESOME buffalo check pattern on my phone that I thought was perfect for what I wanted. I shared it to my printer easily by just using the share feature just like when I’m sharing an image to social media. I chose the HP Print Service Plugin on my phone & it sent it right to my WiFi connected printer.
Here you can see it printed off before I got started.
I just used the width of the ruler to mark out 5 even strips on the paper. Then I cut out those strips, held them together making sure the pattern was facing out for each of the 2 outside strips. I stapled to secure them at the top.
Then I stapled the 2 inner strips to the middle portion of the single inside strip as you can see here making sure each one loops out. Then I did the same thing with the outer strips allowing them to extend further. Once those were secured in the place I wanted, I trimmed the ends even & punched a hole in the top for the string.
At this point you can hang them all over your tree or on your gifts or wherever else you like. They make everything so festive. I love that I can create this with whatever pattern I find when I print it out.
It’s so easy!!! What pattern will you make your ornaments with?
In case you were wondering about the printer. It’s the HP Envy 4512 All-in-One Printer/Copier/Scanner that connects to my home WiFi. I picked it up at Walmart. I had a previous ePrint HP printer but it was at least 4 years old. I figured since I needed a printer at the apartment, this would be a great time to upgrade to a new one here in the office & take the old one to the apartment where it will see less use. I love the ePrint feature because I can use my home WiFi from my phone & send something to my printer.
As I mentioned above, it’s easy to free your images & print all those memories you capture straight from your phone. Here my daughter is printing this image we captured during our trip to the coast this past weekend. Just like the buffalo check image, above, just hit the share feature from your smart phone & sent directly to the printer. This popped right out & she was able to tack it up on her memo board in her room to remember the day. Easy!
You can grab fun printables like coloring sheets & simple cut & paste crafts & holiday song sheets for the kiddos here.
This project was so fun. I love making memories with my kids on projects like this.
