Trendy, healthy, and incredibly delicious, this banana milk is a flavored milk packed with sweet banana and vanilla flavors.
The famous banana milk is a creamy drink from Korea known as “banana uyu”, and it has now become popular even in the US – kids are absolutely ecstatic about it! You can eat bananas, but now you can even drink them!
Gina’s Recipe Rundown:

Why I love it: This is a popular drink that my family enjoyed the whole summer, and I often make it for breakfast. Perfect for the banana lover in your life.
My trick to avoid added sugars and adapt the Korean banana milk recipe to our pantry staples is to use maple syrup as a natural sweetener. I will share a few tips to make it taste better below.
Please note, my original recipe is NOT dairy-free, but it can be adapted as I share below.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Done in 5 minutes, this yummy drink is an easy summer recipe with minimal prep time.
- No artificial flavors – just natural sweetness and a delicious burst of banana flavor.
- An easy way to make your little ones drink milk! They often fuss about plain milk, but I guarantee you, they won’t say no to this banana milk.
- An alternative use for ripe bananas, especially if you’re not a fan of banana bread.
- You can use this banana milk to add to cereal, porridge, smoothies, baking, and chia pudding.
- Much healthier than any packaged banana milk, with no added sugars or preservatives.
Ingredients Notes
- Ripe bananas. Ripe bananas are easy to break down; you can also simply slice or dice them. (they should have some brown spots but try not to use overripe bananas)
- Whole milk. I use regular milk, but you can use vegan milk (soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk or any plant-based milk you prefer).
- Maple syrup. Make sure to use real syrup!
- Vanilla extract. Choose pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.

How To Make Banana Milk
Combine the bananas, milk, water, syrup, and vanilla in a blender and blend on medium for 30 seconds until smooth.
Pour into a glass and serve immediately. Perfect for dipping homemade cookies!
Storage
Banana milk has to be refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 2 days.
Freezing is not recommended due to the dairy content, otherwise, it will lose its flavor and also get separated.
To make ahead, prepare the banana milk and keep it in the fridge.
Substitutions & Variations
- Another form of sweetener can be used in place of the syrup, but keep in mind that making the swap will change the flavor. You can use honey or sweetened condensed milk.
- You can use frozen banana or add ice cream to make an ice drink. If using ice or frozen banana, make sure to use the high-powered blender.
- Add-ons: dates (add sweetness), flax seeds, chia, fresh berries, nuts or nut butter (cashew butter or almond butter are great), warm spices(a little cinnamon is a great pairing for bananas), sea salt or oats as a topping.
- Swap bananas with strawberries! Technically, you can use any of your favorite fruits or berries.
- Add protein powder to make it a filling drink to boost your energy in the morning.
Expert Tips To Make The Best Homemade Banana Milk
- For the best flavor, make sure the bananas are VERY RIPE.
- Add less or more milk to reach the desired consistency (dairy milk, banana smoothie, or milkshake). You can also use only milk and skip water, it will thicken the drink too.
- To make banana milk cold, slice and freeze bananas before making the drink.
- Banana milk can brown just like fresh bananas. Add just a few drops of fresh lemon juice.
