Baked Churro Donuts is an easy homemade donut recipe. Coated in cinnamon & sugar they taste just like the churros you get at Disneyland. Delicious!
Have you had enough donut recipes yet?? Since I am trying really hard to not run the oven- I have been pulling out the donut maker a couple of times a week it seems.
This post was originally published in 2013. It has since been updated multiple times for images, formatting, and additional content.
Some are healthier than others- but that’s the best part. I can make them fit my mood & what I am craving each week. While I only have one right after the photos of them all- the kids get to have these for breakfast until they run out.
My kids, they are crazy for cinnamon – so of course churros were the first thing to come to mind!

Baked Cinnamon Donuts
So this time I made….. Baked Churro Donuts
They really can’t get enough cinnamon. If I put it on everything they ate- they would be perfectly happy with that.
So I do try to incorporate it into a lot of the things I create for them. 🙂
These really do taste like Churros- which immediately make me remember my childhood & going to Disneyland all the time.
I love baking with cinnamon – adds such a comforting smell to the house.
Here are some commonly asked questions
What is a churro donut
A churro donut is a type of pastry that combines the texture and flavor of a churro with the shape and structure of a donut.
Typically, a churro donut is made by frying a sweet, dense dough in oil until it is crispy and golden brown. The dough is then coated in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, which gives it the classic churro flavor.
These are donuts that are coated in cinnamon and sugar – like churros. Churro donuts have become a popular treat in recent years and can be found at many bakeries, cafes, and specialty dessert shops.
Can I use margarine instead of butter?
I have not tried it. But I generally don’t recommend margarine for baking except for specific recipes. Overall I don’t think it is a good swap for butter because it changes the texture and consistency for the final product.
Can I use a sugar substitute?
I have not personally tried it, so I can’t say how that would turn out. But if you would like to try it, I suggest a product that offers a 1:1 swap. Please let me know how it turns out.
Can these donuts be frozen?
So yes and no. I don’t think the moisture created when freezing would be great for the cinnamon/sugar coating. So my suggestion would be that you can freeze the donuts after they are baked. But you should then reheat and add the coating when you are ready to serve.

- Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl & whisk to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a paper bag- set aside.
- Preheat donut maker or if using traditional donut tins- preheat oven to 350.
- Add flour, sugar & baking powder to a large bowl. Mix & then create a well in the center.
- Pour in the milk and mix until almost all combined. Then add the eggs, mixing well.
- Add the melted and cooled butter- mix until well combined.
- Fold in the cinnamon.
- Spray the donut maker wells or donut pans with cooking spray.

What is the best way to store leftover donuts?
I like to put them in an airtight container and refrigerate them. You can keep them at room temperature providing your home isn’t too warm.

These donuts have turned out so awesome. These are extremely tempting and looking yummy.
Aly says
How long can you keep these fresh after baking?
Gina Kleinworth says
Hi Aly,
If kept in an airtight container at room temperature they should keep for 1-2 days after making. This recipe makes 12-15 mini donuts- so they should go pretty quickly.
Brooks Robinson says
Have you tried it with dairy free ‘butter’?
Gina Kleinworth says
I’m sorry, I have not.
Lindsey says
Just made in the oven, very tasty 🙂

Tastes great and they stayed together.
I made using earth balance vegan butter substitute and almond milk. Tge cinnamon/sugar topping didn’t stick very well; my guess is the vegan butter isn’t greasy enough. I used a pampered chef donut pan and pchef batter dispenser. It made 2 dozen donuts! Next time i may try adding some coconut oil. Oh also i greased with coconut oil as nonstick spray will ruin your pans. Tastes great!! we dipped them in chocolate.
Gina Kleinworth says
Oh, fantastic! I’m so happy they turned out with the substitutions.

I remember. Them too. Yummo!!!

This recipe yielded a dozen regular-sized doughnuts for me! I’d expect it to yield 2-4 times the number of mini doughnuts, depending on their size.
They ended up very light and fluffy! I halved the sugar, because I like a more gentle sweet. So delicious!
I needed extra melted butter to brush over them at the end so the cinnamon sugar would stick.

These are so good! But mine ended up tasting like banana bread of all things. Kinda bizarre. I love banana bread but I wanted that full churro taste. But they were so yummy and light and fluffy
