Ingredients Notes
Just 3 or 4 simple ingredients you can find at most grocery stores, you will always find a wheel of brie at Whole Foods.
- Brie cheese. Amazing French cheese with a soft texture and mild milky flavor. 1 brie wheel is enough for 6-8 servings. If you can find a triple cream brie wheel, get it! It is extry creamy melty cheese that is so perfect for baked recipes.
- Fruit preserves (such as apricot, raspberry, or fig). They add a sweet touch. You can also use your favorite homemade jam recipe.
- Toasted nuts (such as toasted pecans or almonds), optional, to add a crunch and more textures.
- Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving, as cheese is best to pair with some nice bread.
What Preserves Go Best With Brie?
Cranberries (cranberry sauce, dried cranberries, roasted fresh cranberries or preserves), dried cherries, dried currants, fig jam or preserves, your favorite jam, berries, dates, lingonberry jam, orange marmalade, raspberry preserves, apricot jam, strawberry jam, raspberry jam, caramelized fruit, and apricots go amazing with brie cheese.
Apart from preserves, mango or peach chutney, onion jam, hot honey or maple syrup, jalapeno jam, chopped pecans, toasted walnuts, pomegranate seeds, fresh apple slices or other sweet fruit and berries, both fresh and dried will work. This makes a great addition to your favorite cheese board spread.
Kitchen Equipment
- Small baking dish or tray lined with parchment paper (you can even use a small cast iron skillet or cookie sheet)
- Optional, cheese knife for easier eating.
How To Make Baked Brie With Preserves
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place brie on a lined baking sheet or you can use a small, oven-safe dish such as Corningware.
- Add the preserves to the top of the brie cheese, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with the nuts, if using.
- Bake brie for 10-12 minutes, or until the brie softens and is warm all the way through. You want it to be soft enough for serving but not a melted mess. It needs to still hold its shape when serving. Carefully transfer to the serving dish.
- Serve immediately with crackers or toasted baguette slices.
- Garnish with spices, fresh herbs, fresh fruit, or even a sprinkle of brown sugar on top of the jam while it is still hot.
Storage
The dish is best served warm. Store leftover baked brie in an airtight container for 3 days in the fridge and reheat in the microwave when ready to serve.
Do not freeze the baked brie with or without toppings. Reheating it will make it rubbery.
Substitutions & Variations
- Can’t find brie? Use camembert – another delicious French soft cheese.
- Use fresh thyme or fresh rosemary sprigs to decorate and add more festive touches.
- Bulk up the dish with some puff pastry – you can use just the sticks or actually make a pie with puff pastry and brie cheese inside. Puff pastry brie will take around 25 minutes to bake.
- If serving with bread, quickly toast it until golden brown. It will be slightly crispy, and crunchy and add to the play of textures.
- If you want a more savory variation, use olive oil to drizzle on top of the brie, sprinkle some chopped bacon, and serve with bread and some veggie sticks, savory spreads, and dips. Herb and nut-based will work best, like pesto, for example.
- Use fruity bread with nuts and dried fruit – it is an amazing combo with melted cheese.
Expert Tips To Make The Best Baked Brie
- This dish can be easily customized for any season and holiday, and even for a date night with a glass of wine!
- Make sure the brie is at room temperature before baking. It takes around 30 minutes to warm up.
- An easy sign of the brie baked till done is the nuts that get toasty and a bit more brown. It should be a bit jiggly too.
- You can also use an air fryer to bake the brie cheese. It will only take about 5 minutes.
Popular Questions & Troubleshooting
Do You Take The Rind Off The Brie Before Baking?
You don’t have to cut off the top rind of the brie wheel but if you’re baking it with puff pastry or want it quicker baked, and the toppings to really stick to the cheese, you can carefully remove it before baking. Don’t cut off the side rind because it actually holds the soft center in shape, and is totally edible.
For the holiday season, you can use a Christmas tree or star cookie cutter to add a nice touch to the top of the cheese.
How To Eat Brie Cheese With Crackers And Jam?
You let the baked brie cool down slightly to avoid burning your tongue and then you can use crackers, or bread sticks to dip in the semi-melted cheese, and use dried fruit, or preserves to spread on the piece of toasted bread.
Can You Prep Baked Brie The Night Before?
Yes, you can bake the brie a day before and store the baked brie in the fridge for up to 3 days. Serve warm.
Why Is My Baked Brie Rubbery?
If you overcook or bake the brie again to reheat the rind will become rubbery and it won’t taste the same. Make sure to bake brie exactly as the recipe suggests and only reheat it in the microwave.
