Bacon & Garlic Green Beans, a side dish recipe that’s easy enough to enjoy with weeknight dinners & perfect for Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners too.
My friends, I hate to admit it, but I have never been a veggie girl. I have always leaned more to the main dish. That is until the hubs made me these Bacon & Garlic Green Beans early on in our marriage & I have been hooked ever since.
I can’t believe I haven’t shared them here before – but here they are! They are the family favorite to have with just about any meal. You can’t really go wrong with green beans that are smothered in garlic, butter & tossed with chunks of bacon, right? So good!
This is literally the one side dish that we serve at every single holiday. Mainly because they go great with turkey, ham, meatloaf, pork, fish, casseroles & more.
Honestly, I’m shocked that the things like this that we have been enjoying multiple times a week, for decades now – have never been shared here. But I am on a mission this season to get those old family favorites on here – so they can become your family favorites too.

Here are some commonly asked questions
Can I use canned green beans for this recipe?
Yes- of course. When we first started making this recipe, that was all we used. Mainly because it is so easy to have canned or frozen green beans on hand at all times.
It can be challenging to keep fresh green beans in the fridge all the time – I totally get that. So by all means, use what you have.
What is the best way to store extra green beans & garlic?
After serving, place the green beans in an airtight container or cover your bowl with plastic wrap or tin foil. Be sure to label with the date before refrigerating.
This recipe should keep for up to 2 days if not left out for too long. As with most things, it is important to get food into the refrigerator within 1 hour after serving to prevent bacteria growth.
Can I leave out the bacon?
You can if you aren’t a big fan of bacon or you are serving these to those that don’t enjoy bacon. These green beans are great with just the garlic & butter too.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
These garlic bacon green beans will work just fine if you want to make them ahead of time. Just make sure to cover & refrigerate right after you prepare them.
When it comes time to serve, add a little more butter, reheat in the microwave, stir well to coat with the fresh butter & then transfer to your serving dish.
Can this recipe be doubled?
YES – I usually like to double or triple this recipe when having friends over or when making this for the holidays. I also like to double this recipe so we have lots of leftovers in anticipation for a busy week ahead. It is so nice to not have to cook for a night or two.

Are green beans and string beans the same?
Yes – snap beans, green beans & string beans are all the same thing. Whatever name you grew up with & prefer – they are all that same wonderful little veggie we love.

Salter butter, or unsalted butter? For the garlic green beans with bacon? Can’t wait to use this recipe for Christmas!
Gina Kleinworth says
That is your choice – we use salted, but we like things with a bit more salt that others.
Marlene says
When you say add the bacon, is it cooked or raw?
Gina Kleinworth says
The bacon should be cooked prior to adding to the green beans.
