Common Questions About Air Fryer Strawberry Shortcake
Is it necessary to macerate the strawberries?
Yes, macerating the strawberries helps them become softer and release their natural juices. This process enhances their flavor and creates a delicious syrup that perfectly complements the shortcake.
Do I need to preheat my air fryer before cooking the biscuits?
It’s not necessary to preheat your air fryer, but doing so will help to ensure even cooking and browning of the biscuits.
Can I use homemade whipped cream instead of canned whipped topping?
Yes, you can use homemade whipped cream in place of the canned whipped topping for a more natural and customizable option.
Storage
This classic dessert done differently will be so popular you might not have any leftovers! Just in case though, here are some tips.
Refrigerator
Assembled Air Fryer Strawberry Shortcakes can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Keep them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
Freezer
Freezing assembled shortcakes is not recommended, as the whipped topping and fruit may not retain their texture upon thawing. However, you can freeze the cooked shortcake biscuits for up to 3 months in an airtight container or freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature before assembling the shortcakes.
Tips
These homemade shortcakes get my mouth watering every time. The air fryer really does something great with them!
- Make sure the biscuits are not touching in the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
- If you prefer a less sweet dessert, feel free to reduce the amount of sugar used to macerate the strawberries.
- Using air fryer-specific perforated parchment paper will help prevent a build-up of non-stick spray on your air fryer basket.
Ingredients
For the best results, use fresh fruit for this recipe. That wonderful, fresh, sweet strawberry flavor just cannot be beat!
- Fresh Strawberries
- Granulated Sugar (White Sugar)
- Refrigerated biscuits
- Whipped topping
How to Make Air Fryer Strawberry Shortcake
My kids absolutely love fresh summer strawberries with sugar. This is exactly what you’ll get with this delicious summer dessert!
- First, we want to macerate the strawberries by combining them with the sugar in a small bowl. Just toss them with the sugar in the bowl and let them sit while you make the biscuits. The sugar will break them down and they will become soft.
- Place biscuits in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not touching. I am able to make four at a time.
- Cook at 330ºF for 6 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and allow them to cool before proceeding.
- Whisk the strawberries with a fork and mash any remaining large lumps in the mixture.
- When biscuits are cooled, cut them in half like you would a hamburger bun.
- On the bottom layer, put whipped topping followed by a layer of strawberry mixture.
- Place the top of the biscuit on, followed by more strawberry sauce and whipped topping.
Notes –
You can either grease the air fryer basket prior to adding the dough, or you can line it with the perforated parchment made for air fryers. The parchment is my preference as the nonstick cooking spray leaves a coating that is not removable over time.
For the prettiest presentation, you want to follow the steps laid out here for assembling the dessert. But if you want to just toss it all together in a bowl – that works too.
