Now the actual cooking time for these potatoes is about the same as when I bake in them in the oven. The part that makes them fast is that I don’t have to wait 20+ minutes for the oven to reach 400 degrees before I can get going. I can literally just turn it on & the cooking starts.
If you love potatoes – don’t miss our easy Smashed Potatoes!
It took me about 5 minutes to wash & cut my potatoes. Then I just tossed them with some olive oil & seasonings in a large bowl. Transferred them to my air fryer basket & cooked at 400 for 20 minutes.
I did stir them around after the first 10 minutes. Once the timer went off – they were DONE! As in ABSOLUTELY PERFECT & ready to enjoy! This potato-loving girl was VERY HAPPY.
For this recipe you will need an Air Fryer, Granulated Garlic & Pappy’s Seasoning.
Here are some commonly asked questions
What air fryer do you use?
We actually have 3 air fryers. I have a smaller one from Phillips that we started with. I have since given that to my son since he’s only cooking for 1.
But the more I used the air fryer I realized I really wanted a digital screen. It wasn’t any more expensive, in fact- our XL air fryer from GoWISE was less expensive than the Phillips and I love its ease & extra functions.
Plus it comes with a lot of the extra accessories I like to use when cooking with my fryer.
But I when I started working on my second air fryer book, I wanted to change things up. I picked up this Chefman 6.3 Quart Digital Air Fryer+ Rotisserie, Dehydrator, Convection Oven. It has 8 Touch Screen Presets (Fry, Roast, Dehydrate & Bake, BPA-Free, Auto Shutoff) & Accessories Included. It is XL Family Size, which is great!
HOW DO YOU MAKE Air Fryer Steak Fries?

- Sprinkle in garlic, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper, toss again.
- Place in the air fryer basket and fry at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Stir potatoes halfway through to ensure even cooking since these are not cooking in a single layer.

I need an air fryer! I asked or one for Christmas but Santa let me down. 🙁 Guess I’ll have to go around Santa and get one anyway. Steak fries are our fave. Did they come out crispy? I can’t tell from the photo. They look crispy. Saw this on the Wonderful Wednesday LP. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great recipe! Took about 22 minutes in the air fryer. We used the seasoning we use to make garlic bread, and gave the basket a shake halfway through. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Will make again, everyone loved it.

Well didn’t see any nutritional information??

We just got the ability to add it when we redesigned the site a year ago. Unfortunately, that means that the 1500+ recipes that were published in the 12 years prior to that all need to be updated individually. It doesn’t happen automatically. I’m just one person, so I am getting to it as I can. Sorry about that. In the meantime, I recommend using your favorite online calculator or app – I find those to be far more accurate anyway.
That being said – these are potatoes with oil and seasonings. The seasonings will be negligible when it comes to nutrition – so I would go with the standard nutrition for potatoes. They are definitely not diet food.

So great! Cooked up just as expected and described. Highly recommend!!

I will confess that I changed the seasoning to suit more of my taste, but these fries were fantastic. I have a Ninja toaster oven/airfryer and the fries cooked perfectly for the amount of time and temperature in the recipe. The only thing I changed was the seasoning, instead of 2 tablespoons of granulated garlic, I used 1 tablespoon each of granulated garlic and granulated onion. I am easily overwhelmed by garlic so that was the reason for the change.
