If you like fried pickles but don’t want all the carbs and calories, try this low-carb air fryer fried pickles recipe. It tastes just like deep frying without all the guilt!
If you’re looking for a delicious, healthy snack, look no further than air fryer fried pickles! They are easy to make and taste great. Plus, they’re a lot healthier than traditional fried pickles.
Not only are they healthier than deep frying because we are using the air fryer, but we make them low-carb by using pork rinds instead of breadcrumbs or panko – so even those on a keto diet can enjoy them.
When we first started our low-carb journey it seemed like there wasn’t anything we loved that we were allowed to have. But then slowly as we went, day by day we learned new things about how to reduce the sugar and carbs in our diet.
Because we love snacks – we didn’t want to give them up. Fortunately, ingredients like pork rinds are the perfect alternative to breadcrumbs – making it super easy to swap them out and still enjoy the snacks we love. Like these pickle chips.

Here are some commonly asked questions
What is the best way to store leftover fried pickles?
For long-term storage, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 3 days. Just a minute or two in the microwave should be enough to reheat them. However, know that reheating may cause the fried pickles to become less crispy the second time around.
You can also pop them back into the air fryer for a couple of minutes to reheat – but overall, they will not be as good as they were when fresh.
Can this recipe be doubled?
You can, and we do it often. The prep time takes a bit longer, but if you are serving these at your game-day party, I highly recommend it because they are always the first to disappear.
How Air Frying Works
While air fryers are relatively new to the market, the technology isn’t really a new concept. They basically work like tiny convection ovens that you can use on your countertop.
Similar to a convection oven, it circulates the hot air within the cooking area using a high-powered fan. This helps evenly distribute the heat around the food which not only creates more evenly cooked food but also reduced cooking times.
By circulating the hot air, which contains the fine oil droplets from adding a light mist layer before cooking, and allows you to remove the need for submerging our foods in heavy oils to create the deliciously crunchy foods we all love.
Can You Freeze Air Fryer Fried Pickles?
Yes, you can freeze air fryer fried pickles! Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze for 1-2 hours, or until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When ready to eat, thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in the air fryer until hot.

What are the benefits of air frying?
Healthier
It’s no secret that fried foods are more fattening – but did you know that there are 9 calories in every gram of fat? With air frying, we can reduce the fat by removing most of the oils usually needed to create crunchy foods. This helps to drastically reduce fat intake and calories.
Convenience
I love being able to cook with my air fryer and eliminate the need for large baking sheets and lots of pots and pans. Most of my air fryer recipes can be made with just a mixing bowl or two or a small saucepan in addition to my air fryer.
Energy Efficient
Someone said to me once, “why make this in the air fryer if you can do it the conventional way in the same amount of time?” Well, air frying helps eliminate the need for a conventional oven.
Not only can you keep your home cooler in the summer by not using the oven, but you are saving money with reduced energy consumption costs as well.
Time Saver
I don’t know about you, but if I can avoid turning on the oven and having to wait 20 minutes for it to preheat, I’m happy about that. Most air fryer recipes either don’t require that you preheat the fryer – or the preheat time is 5 minutes or less. That is a huge time saver over using the oven.
Take it on the go
I love that the air fryer is compact and easy to take along on trips. We pack ours in our RV and find that air fryer cooking while camping is so much easier than trying to deep fry foods on a small RV stove or camping burner.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Fried Pickles
- dill pickle slices
- ground pork rinds – pork rind crumbs
- large egg
- garlic powder
- ground black pepper
- paprika
- coconut flour
- cooking oil in a spray bottle
- Optional: Ranch for dipping or your favorite sauce and dried parsley for garnish.
Can I use gluten-free breadcrumbs?
I have not personally tried it, but I don’t see why not. You just want to add something to give the outside a bit of texture. You can also use panko if you prefer.
If you aren’t trying to keep the carbs down – these will still taste delicious when using breadcrumbs or panko.
What to serve with fried pickles
Fried pickles are delicious on their own, but they also make a great appetizer or side dish. Serve them with ranch dressing, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce. You could also serve them alongside a sandwich or burger for a tasty meal.
If you’re looking for something a little different, try serving air fryer fried pickles with a dipping sauce made of equal parts ranch dressing and BBQ sauce. Delish! Here are some of our favorite things to serve with fried pickles.
What other dipping sauces do you recommend?
While most people love to dip these in Ranch Dressing – I like to change it up from time to time. Check out some of these favorite sauces here –
Can these be baked instead of air fried?
Yes – if you want to bake them instead of air frying – just prepare the pickles as instructed and then bake at 400 for 10 minutes.

Air Frying Doneness Tip
Every air fryer is a bit different and they all cook at different rates – so in general, all cooking times are approximate based on the pan and temperature.
You can always cook the recipe longer if needed and reduce the heat a bit. If needed, you can tent the top if it is browning too much.

What Are The Best Pickles For Air Fryer Fried Pickles
The best pickles for air fryer fried pickles are ones that are sliced thinly. I like to use dill pickle spears, but you could also use dill pickle chips or any other type of pickle that you like. If using thicker slices of pickle, you may need to cook them for a few minutes longer.
NOTE- If using an air fryer with a basket you may need to flip the pickles halfway through.
What Is The Best Temperature To Cook Air Fryer Fried Pickles?
The best temperature to cook air fryer fried pickles is 400 degrees Fahrenheit. This will ensure that they get nice and crispy on the outside while remaining juicy on the inside.
How Long Do Air Fryer Fried Pickles Take To Cook?
Air fryer fried pickles take about 10-12 minutes to cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your pickle slices and how crispy you like them.
How to prevent sticking in the air fryer
Sticking can often happen when using an air fryer. I understand that most would think to add non-stick spray to the basket to prevent this. I strongly encourage you to not do that.
Non-stick spray leaves a coating that won’t come off, even when washed. Over time – this will build up and cause smoking when you use our air fryer.
I also do not recommend putting down a sheet of foil. The idea behind air frying is to allow the air to circulate around the food.
This is why the basket or tray has holes in it. If you put foil down – this prevents the air from reaching all of the areas it needs to in order for it to cook properly.
Instead – I recommend spraying the basket with olive oil using this spray bottle. You can line the air fryer with perforated parchment paper.
Or you can use one of these really great silicone liners that still allow for airflow but are reusable and easily cleanable.

What air fryer do you use?
We actually have 3 air fryers. I have a smaller one from Phillips that we started with. I have since given that to my son since he’s only cooking for 1.
But the more I used the air fryer I realized I really wanted a digital screen. It wasn’t any more expensive, in fact- our XL air fryer from GoWISE was less expensive than the Phillips and I love its ease & extra functions.
Plus it comes with a lot of the extra accessories I like to use when cooking with my fryer.
But I when I started working on my second air fryer book, I wanted to change things up. I picked up this LARGE air fryer that has been wonderful. It has Touch Screen Presets plus it is XL Family Size, which is great!
