Tips For Making The Best Crispy Drumsticks
We have just a few suggestions for getting the best results when you make these chicken legs.
- Leave plenty of room between each chicken leg to allow the hot air to reach all sides of the chicken so that the skin becomes crispy.
- Avoid stacking the chicken in the basket. If necessary, cook the chicken legs in batches.
- Keep the marinated chicken legs in the refrigerator for as long as possible (up to 2 hours) in order for the marinade to do its work.

Air Fryer Chicken Legs
Ingredients
- 4 chicken legs drumsticks or sub with 6-7 chicken wings, or 4 thighs
Marinade
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic clove large – if garlic is not strong enough, use 3 or even 4 cloves – I used 2 large
- 1 lemon juiced – large
- lemon zest from one larger lemon
- 3 teaspoon brown sugar regular brown sugar or muscovado sugar for more intense caramel sweet flavor
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Marinade
- Mix the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, brown sugar, oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
Chicken
- In a large bowl (or you can use a zip lock bag for this) massage the chicken legs with the marinade and leave it in the fridge for 30 minutes or 1-2 hours if you have more time.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375 F for 5 minutes.
- Once the air fryer is preheated, transfer the chicken into the basket and air fry for 10 minutes, flip the chicken and cook for another 10 minutes. Total air frying time 20 minutes.
- Chicken should be darkened, browned and very crisp on the outside.
- Discard the leftover marinade.
- You can garnish the chicken with extra lemon zest, lemon slices/wedges, and fresh oregano or parsley.
- Enjoy with dipping sauces.
Notes
- If you have air fryer basket liners, use them so your air fryer basket can serve you longer.
- Fried food generally doesn’t reheat well. But with an air fryer, you can reheat the chicken once (on the same day of making it). Reheat in a preheated air fryer at 375 F for 5 minutes.
- Oregano – best combination with lemon and garlic but other alternatives would be rosemary, basil, and thyme. Dried or fresh.
