If you are a fan of a popular whipped pineapple treat but want a little kick with it, you’ll love this Dirty Pineapple Whip Pops Recipe. Boozy rum frozen treat!
Who loves those whipped pineapple treats you see all over the place at certain theme parks? I know, they are so good & the copycat recipes are all over Pinterest. I thought of making just that for the hubs & I one afternoon.
But then I thought it would be so much better if I added a little rum to the mix. I thought I would just make it that way & do it soft-serve style. But I found these pop bags that are just too fun.
So I whipped up this mix & poured it in & this Dirty Pineapple Whip Pops Recipe was born. The hardest part was waiting for them to freeze overnight. But boy are they tasty!!

My first batch made only about 3-1/2 pops. Certainly not enough for a party. So I doubled on the next batch & then quadrupled it by the time I finished. Honestly, you will want the big batch because it’s so nice to have a little spiked pop on a hot summer afternoon. I promise you will love them.
Dirty Dole Whip Pops Recipe
What is dole whip?
Dole Whip, also known as Dole soft serve, is a soft serve a dairy-free frozen dessert that was created by the Dole Food Company way back in 1986.
While the original pineapple flavor is the most popular, there are another six fruit varieties that are sold. Those are Mango, Lemon, Orange, Raspberry, Strawberry, & Lime. Which would be your favorite?
What is Dole Whip made of?
Well, it’s kinda interesting. Dole Whip dessert is dairy-free. It is made from a pineapple-flavored dry mix that is then mixed with water.
They pump it out of a soft-serve machine when you are at the park. I get it, they need products that can withstand being outside all day long to serve the masses. But knowing what it is made of, I would much rather make my own version here.

Is pineapple whip healthy?
I would say that if you stick to just the pineapple & the coconut milk, then this could be considered a healthy dessert. But once you add the rum, you are tossing the healthy factor out the window.
Maybe make some with & some without – so you have some for everyday evening treats & some for the weekends when you want something to help relax. All that being said, if you add the cream of coconut or anything else, these would definitely not be considered healthy.
What other mix-ins would you suggest?
If you want a heavier coconut flavor to give these more of a tropical vibe, feel free to add in a couple tablespoons of cream of coconut into the mix when blending. It is super delicious. Be sure to get the kind that is sweetened & meant for mixing into cocktails.
Can I use canned pineapple chunks instead?
Yes, absolutely, that would be fine. I don’t always have fresh pineapple on hand, so in a pinch, the canned will work. I do like to refrigerate the can before using it in this recipe though.
The canned pineapple isn’t as firm as fresh, so chilling helps the consistency a bit when blending this all together.
Can I use dark rum instead of white?
You can do this if that is all you have on hand. I really like using Malibu Coconut Rum too, but usually, only have white rum in the cabinet when it comes to making this recipe.
You could use vodka too, but that would give these a whole different flavor. If that is your preference, feel free to swap them out.
Ingredients
- pineapple chunks
- coconut milk
- rum

I haven’t made these yet but they do look delicious. What would you suggest substituting for rum if you don’t prefer that? or want to make them for children?
Gina Kleinworth says
Hi Eleanor, So glad you are going to give these a try. If you want to make some without the rum, try increasing the coconut milk by 3/4 cup or add 3/4 cup pineapple juice instead. Note – Because you will be omitting the alcohol these will freeze faster & will be more firm than the original recipe. Hope you enjoy them.
Steph says
Is this the quadrupled recipe?
Gina Kleinworth says
Yes – this makes about 15 pops.
Sharlene says
Is the coconut milk the one in a can? Or the milk you can drink with cereal etc.
Gina Kleinworth says
In the can. There is a link to the exact product in the section titled “Products I love when making Dirty Pineapple Whip Pops…”
