Despicable Me 3 Minion Cupcakes are the perfect for celebrating the release of the Despicable Me 3 Movie or hosting a Despicable Me themed party. Fun!
Do your kids love the Despicable Me movies? I know so many that do, which is why I know everyone WAS EXCITED about the release of Despicable Me 3 back on June 30th. Have you seen it yet? With all the hype about the movie around our house, I thought it would be so fun to make some Despicable Me 3 Minion Cupcakes for the kids to amp up the excitement even more for the movie.

While picking up supplies for the cupcakes we also stopped into Toys “R” Us & found their super FUN Despicable Me 3 display. You can see who was super excited to find all these awesome movie themed products. Of course, we had to pick up a new cute toy before we went home to make cupcakes.
Making these cupcakes is really simple. I started with a regular yellow cake mix & blue cupcake papers. You can also use white cake mix & add yellow food coloring. Just bake to the directions on the box & let cool before decorating.

Of course, I based my color choices of the character colors. You could use light blue cupcake papers if you like. I happened to have the darker blue on hand so I went with that. This is meant to be simple & easy, so go with what you have already. Check out how adorable this toy is! I’m thinking these will be the HIT of the holiday season in a whole lot of households this year.
Once the cupcakes were baked & cooled, I whipped up a batch of my buttercream frosting recipe. I portioned out 1/3 of the frosting into a separate bowl & mixed in black food coloring until I reached the desired color. I didn’t measure as I just added a little bit at a time & mixed like crazy. But I would estimate at least 3 tbsp to reach this deep shade. I then added electric yellow to the rest of the frosting & mixed well. Once the colors were ready I added them to my piping bags fitted with my largest round tips. Obviously, start with one round of yellow, then black & finish with yellow. I used the candy eyes to create the signature look of the Minions. It really was so simple & yet oh so CUTE!
You can find a broad assortment of Despicable Me 3 exclusive products at Toys”R”Us stores or Toysrus.com. My daughter really fell in love with this talking stuffie. I have been listening to it chattering ever since we brought it home. Are you excited to go find your new favorite toy too?
