Chocolate Chip Red Velvet Mini Loaves are a delightful homemade gift to give to neighbors or friends during the holiday season. Simple, easy & delicious!
Do you like making homemade gifts for friends & neighbors? It’s one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season. I usually spend most of November testing recipes to narrow down just the perfect treats I want to make to give away.
One recipe that I keep coming back to is one for these Chocolate Chip Red Velvet Mini Loaves.
I sure love red velvet & then when it’s topped with a sweet glaze & cute snowflake sprinkles, it just makes the whole season a little bit happier. I think we all could use some extra doses of happiness in our days & this is just the recipe to do that.
These are so incredibly easy to make. Just whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl, pour into your mini loaf pans & bake for about 35 minutes.
Once they are cool you can remove & add the simple 2 ingredient glaze. I’m telling you, it’s so easy but no one will be the wiser because of how pretty they are.
Red Velvet Mini Loaf Cake
Here are some commonly asked questions
What is red velvet?
Red velvet is a chocolate cake that gets its red color from food coloring or beet juice. It is often served with cream cheese frosting and can be made into cupcakes, cake pops, or mini loaves.
What is the difference between red velvet cake and chocolate cake?
The main difference between red velvet cake and chocolate cake is the color. Red velvet cake gets its red color from food coloring or beet juice, while the chocolate cake is, well, brown. Red velvet cake often has tangy ingredients such as vinegar or buttermilk. It is also often served with cream cheese frosting, which chocolate cake typically is not.
Is red velvet cake really just chocolate cake?
No, red velvet cake is not just chocolate cake with food coloring. It has a different flavor and texture than chocolate cake, thanks to the addition of cocoa powder and buttermilk.
How to Store Red Velvet Loaf Cake
Wrap the cakes in plastic wrap or cover the loaf pan with foil and keep it at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also refrigerate if you prefer.
I do recommend refrigeration if you have already added the glaze. But if you wait to add the glaze until serving- these will store well at room temperature if they are kept airtight.
Can this recipe be made in a regular loaf pan?
Yes, you can make this in 2 regular-size loaf pans. You can also cut this recipe in half and make just one regular-sized loaf. You will want to increase the baking time to 50-60 minutes or until the toothpick test is clean.

- all-purpose flour
- baking soda
- salt
- mini chocolate chips
Icing

Can this 5-minute quick bread be frozen?
Yes, I do it often. If you plan on making ahead and saving – just wait for the loaves to cool to room temperature. Then remove them from the loaf pans, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then place them in zip-top bags. Freeze for up to 4 months.
I recommend waiting to add the icing until you are ready to serve. The loaves don’t freeze too well when the icing is already on there.
Can I use a different type of milk?
Yes – that will work for this recipe. You can use nut milk, oat milk, or even heavy cream if you like.

What loaf pans do you use? Your loaves came
out perfect!
Gina Kleinworth says
Hi Whitney – my favorite little pans are these ones I picked up on Amazon http://amzn.to/2h1k2bz They work really well. For this recipe, I only used 3 out of the 4.
Enjoy!!!
Meka says
If I can’t find the bittersweet chocolate can I use something else? Also can I use regular flour?
Gina Kleinworth says
You should be able to find bittersweet chocolate in the same spot as the regular baking chocolate squares. I think you can substitute dark baking chocolate with at least 70% cocoa for the bittersweet – but I have not tried it so I can’t guarantee it’s outcome. As far as the flour- all-purpose should be fine.
Allison says
These were delish and easy to make.pretty presentation too
Michelle says
Are these considered gluten-free?
Gina Kleinworth says
Unfortunately, no. Because Organic Unbleached All Purpose White Flour still contains gluten. You would have to use an alternative to AP flour, such as one specifically labeled gluten-free or almond or coconut flour. This recipe has not been tested with any of those types.
Sharon says
Can you freeze?
Beautiful 🤗
Gina Kleinworth says
Yes – these freeze well. I recommend doing it before adding the glaze. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap then place in a zip-top bag.
Naadiya says

Hi there. I baked these in mini loaves and they were delicious. Can I double the recipe and bake in a 10 cup bundt pan?
Gina Kleinworth says
I’m so thrilled that you want to make the loaves again but for a birthday. That is so FUN! I am sorry to say, I have never tried this recipe in a bundt pan before. So I can’t say how that would turn out.
I do however have a red velvet bundt cake recipe that you could make instead and just add the chocolate chips to it. https://www.kleinworthco.com/red-velvet-bundt-cake-w-kahlua-ganache/
I’d love for you to share how it turned out. Please send my Happy Birthday wishes to your mother!
Thanks again! Gina
Michelle says
Doesn’t the chocolate seize up melting it in water?
Gina Kleinworth says
Nope – it melts into the water as the water heats. So it’s just a thin chocolaty liquid. I have made this recipe countless times and never had an issue with that.
Sue says
Can you use disposable mini bread pans and leave them in the pans?
Gina Kleinworth says
Yes.
Colleen B. says
Made several mini loaves at Christmas time and everyone loved them.
Will be making a few mini loaves for Valentine’s Day and adding tiny heart sprinkles on top.
