Common Questions About Peanut Butter Cake
Do I Need to Use a Stand Mixer?
While using a stand mixer can make the process of making peanut butter cake easier and more efficient, it’s not an absolute necessity. You can certainly make peanut butter cake using alternative methods if you don’t have access to a stand mixer. Here are a few options:
- Hand Mixer: If you have a hand mixer, it can be a great substitute for a stand mixer. Hand mixers are portable and can help you achieve the desired consistency for your cake batter.
- Whisk and Elbow Grease: If you don’t have any type of mixer, you can use a whisk and mix the ingredients by hand. This might require a bit more effort and time, but it’s entirely possible to achieve good results.
- Food Processor: If your recipe involves blending or mixing ingredients, a food processor can be used to combine the ingredients and achieve a smooth batter.
- Mixing by Hand: While it might take a bit more time and energy, you can mix the ingredients by hand using a spatula or wooden spoon. It’s important to make sure the ingredients are well incorporated, but this method can work for simpler cake recipes.
Remember that the purpose of using a mixer is to ensure thorough mixing of the ingredients and to create a smooth, consistent batter. Mixing by hand might require a bit more attention to ensure everything is well combined.
Whichever method you choose, the end result can still be a delicious peanut butter cake.
Storage
Proper storage is important to maintain the freshness and quality of your peanut butter cake. Here’s how you should store your peanut butter cake, both short-term and long-term:
Short-Term Storage (1-2 Days):
- Room Temperature: If you plan to consume the cake within a day or two, you can store it at room temperature in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap. Make sure the container is tightly sealed to prevent the cake from drying out.
Long-Term Storage (3-4 Days or More):
- Refrigeration: If you need to store the cake for several days, it’s best to refrigerate it. Place the cake in an airtight container or wrap it tightly with plastic wrap to prevent moisture loss. This will help keep the cake moist and maintain its texture.
- Freezing: If you want to store the cake for an extended period (beyond a few days), freezing is a good option. Follow these steps:
- Cooling: Allow the cake to cool completely before freezing. If possible, you can also cut it into individual slices for easier portioning later.
- Wrap: Wrap the cake tightly with plastic wrap to prevent freezer burn and moisture loss. You can also wrap it in aluminum foil for added protection.
- Airtight Container: Place the wrapped cake slices in an airtight container or a resealable freezer bag. Label the container with the date to keep track of its freshness.
- Freeze: Place the container in the freezer. Peanut butter cake can be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months without a significant loss of quality.
Thawing and Serving:
When you’re ready to enjoy the frozen cake, follow these steps:
- Thawing: Transfer the wrapped cake from the freezer to the refrigerator. Allow it to thaw slowly in the refrigerator. This gradual thawing helps prevent condensation and maintain the cake’s texture.
- Bringing to Room Temperature: Once the cake is thawed, you can let it come to room temperature before serving, if desired. This can help restore its flavor and texture.
Remember that freezing can slightly alter the texture of the cake, particularly if it contains frostings or fillings. However, a well-wrapped and properly stored cake can still taste delicious after being thawed.

Pro Tips
This cake is for peanut butter lovers because it is loaded with peanut butter flavor. You can also make it with creamy peanut butter frosting for more flavor for those ultimate peanut butter fans.
I don’t recommend using natural peanut butter and I highly recommend using smooth peanut butter, not chunky peanut butter.
Be sure to keep your electric mixer on low when adding the dry ingredients, like the flour mixture or the powdered sugar when making the frosting.
I like to use the paddle attachment when making the cake batter, but the whip attachment when making the frosting.
I have not tested this recipe with cake flour but I believe it would yield a more tender crumble and a lighter texture and moist crumb.
This is also the best cake to pair with a chocolate ganache and top with Reese’s peanut butter cups.
Try pairing this cake with a peanut butter cream cheese frosting or a chocolate frosting.
