It can be so easy to make your own homemade Mint Extract. If you love adding that wonderful flavor of mint to all your recipes, you will want to make this.
I don’t know about you, but I sure go through the mint extract. Which is great that my family is getting lots of recipes with the flavors they love. But it can be so expensive to keep buying those tiny bottles at the store. So I decided to make my own when I had a whole bunch of leftover mint leaves after a day of mixing cocktails.
It comes together just like making homemade vanilla extract (which I also do but have not shared here). The hardest part is waiting for it to be ready. Unlike vanilla though, you only have to wait about a month before it’s ready to use. Just combine, cover, shake occasionally & wait. I know a lot of people love to start making the vanilla extract this time of year so that it’s ready for gift giving come holiday time. I think I will do mint extract instead. Mint transcends the seasons, but definitely is a perfect holiday flavor.
Mint Extract
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh mint leaves - rinsed
- 2-3 cups vodka
Instructions
- Remove mint leaves from stem & rise & shake off excess water
- Place in jar (I used 16 oz jar) & fill with vodka until all the leaves are covered
- Screw on lid tightly & mark the date on the jar
- (I just place a small piece of masking tape on the lid & write the date)
- Leave in the cabinet for 1 month - shake every few days while you wait
- Once it's done- strain out the leaves & discard
- Transfer extact to an easy pour bottle

That sounds wonderful! I don’t use mint nearly enough.
